Meals on Wheels thanks
drivers
By Barbara Gartman
Monitor Staff Writer
SEVEN POINTS–Volunteer drivers with Meals on Wheels were treated to
a special meal and entertainment at the Cedar Creek Bible Church in
Seven Points Dec. 9.
Approximately 45 drivers from around Henderson County attended the
meal, and enjoyed a video featuring activities throughout the
county.
Volunteers present introduced themselves and told how long they had
been volunteering – anywhere between a few months to one person with
19 years as a Meals on Wheels driver.
Members shared stories of unusual experiences. One woman who spoke
of her surprise when the man she was delivering a meal to came to
the door in his undershirt and a tie.
Another driver said his hardest job was repairing a door another
volunteer driver had damaged.
One woman told about a lady with 12 dogs who needed help finding a
home for most of them. A woman with the Athens Humane Society said
she could help with the chore.
Meals on Wheels is often the only personal contact the meal
recipients have. Some clients are found to be needing serious help,
possibly a need to call an ambulance or contacting other agencies.
During the banquet, four children put on a skit representing drivers
delivering meals, as well as a lady waiting in her home for the
meal.
Children participating were Abigail Baird, Asa and Aiden Mondragon
and Ethan Jarvis.
