Local players named All-ET

TYLER–Three Cedar Creek Lake area players were named to
All-East Texas volleyball teams by the Tyler Morning Telegraph last
weekend.
The Tyler daily newspaper named Eustace senior Alyson Harlan and Mabank
junior Miranda Groom to its 10-member All-ET second team in its Jan. 13
edition.
Mabank senior Pheng Leav was included on the honorable mention list,
which included players from 27 school districts.
All-East Texas players were drawn from 30 area teams, ranging from 1A to
5A schools.
Whitehouse senior Brittani Toole was named the Most Valuable Player,
while Tyler Robert E. Lee sophomore Sarah Sivertson was named the
Underclassman of the Year.
’Jackets sting Bulldogs

EUSTACE–The visiting Kemp Yellowjackets handed the Eustace Bulldogs a
52-34 loss Friday in the District 13-3A basketball opener for both
teams.
Kemp was scheduled to host Crandall Tuesday, while Eustace was scheduled
to host Mabank.
Friday, Jan. 19, Kemp’s boys will visit Kaufman for a key district
contest, while Eustace’s boys will host Crandall.
Next Tuesday, Jan. 23, the Eustace boys will host Kaufman, while Kemp
will host Ferris. Each evening opens with 4:30 p.m. sub-varsity
contests.
At Eustace Friday, the visiting ’Jackets broke open a fairly tight
contest in the second quarter with a 20-7 run, which put Kemp up by 16
points at halftime, 32-16.
The ’Jackets padded their lead out to 20 points, 49-29, going into the
fourth quarter.
Joseph Simmons led Kemp with 18 points and six steals, while Jacarri
Culberson finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and one
block.
Matt Brown scored nine points and had one block, while Kevin Freeman
added six points, grabbed four rebounds and made one block, Justin
Gibson had three points and James Trim scored two points.
A scoring summary for the Bulldogs was not available by presstime
Tuesday.
