Star Harbor shows off watercolor art
Special to The Monitor
STAR HARBOR–The Star Harbor Watercolor
Society will host its annual “For the Love of Art” show and
sale at Star Harbor City Hall from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19.
The society was founded February 2005, from a small
discussion among a few friends about the love of watercolor.
Today, the society hopes to improve the painting skills of
its members and stimulate public interest in watercolor art
through exhibitions. The group soon grew from six to more
than 25 members.
Society members have entered and won awards in shows at the
Henderson County Art Center and State Fair of Texas in 2011.
The group’s paintings have also been displayed at
prestigious showings at the Irving Art Association, annual
Wildlife Show, exhibition at Perfect Bloom at the Main
Street in Tyler Gallery and the Richardson Civic Art Society
Regional Art Show and the Southwestern Watercolor Society.
Star Harbor is located just north of Malakoff on Cedar Creek
Lake. Turn at the intersection of State Highway 198 and
Farm-to-Market Road 3062 at the Malakoff Fire Station and
continue 1.4 miles past Malakoff High School into Star
Harbor. Veer left at the “Y” and the city hall is to the
right of the golf course at 99 Sunset Blvd.

Crime Stoppers tips lead to cash
rewards
Special to The Monitor
CANTON–Van Zandt County Crime Stoppers authorized $2,050 in
rewards for tips that led to four arrests and the recovery
of a stolen weapon as well as any tips reported regarding a
2010 arson in Van.
Among the approved rewards was $500 for a tip on a Wills
Point woman who was charged with a drug-related parole
violation and wanted on a drug crime warrant from Kaufman
County.
Another Wills Point woman was arrested on a warrant for
forgery of a government document which is a felony.
Her boyfriend was also arrested as he was wanted on several
misdemeanor charges.
The caller of the tip received a $400 reward.
A $100 reward was also given when a tip led to the arrest of
a Wills Point man on a warrant for failure to pay child
support.
Fifty dollars was awarded for the tip that led deputies to a
location also in Wills Point, where a stolen weapon was
recovered, even though that tip did not lead to an arrest.
Crime Stoppers also approved a reward of $1,000 for
information about a modular home fire Aug. 8, 2010, in Van,
along the I-20 service road near FM 314.
The owner of the home, Ken Wiggins, is also offering a
$1,000 reward.
At the time of the fire, a passing truck driver reported
seeing several teenagers running from the area.
The utilities had been turned off to the home, as it was
about to be sold and moved. Wiggins had no insurance
coverage on the home.
“The lack of leads in this arson case prompted us to add to
the owner’s reward. We hope that someone with information
about this crime will come forward now that there is a
potential $2,000 reward, so that authorities can close this
case,” president of Van Zandt County Crime Stoppers Andy
Flowers said.
Calls to the Crime Stoppers tip line at (903) 567-7867, are
always kept completely anonymous.
Callers are given a code for their tip. When someone who has
either just committed a crime or is wanted on a warrant is
arrested, the caller can then collect the reward.
Rewards of up to $1,000 are financed by criminal court fines
and donations.
