Ashtyn Hughes
Services for Ashtyn Makenna Hughes, 9, Cross Roads, were held Jan. 27, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Athens with Charles Kimble and Ronnie Snow officiating. Burial followed in Post Oak Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home in Athens.
Hughes was born Feb. 26, 1998, in Athens and lived his entire life in Cross Roads. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Carol Ann Scoggin in 2005, and his paternal grandmother Hilda Hughes in 1995.
He was a student at Malakoff Elementary School. He was a member of the Malakoff Tiger football team and was also active in soccer, basketball and baseball.
Other interests were various forms of art including detailed, freehand drawing. He loved animals and the outdoors, especially hunting with his “Poppa.”
Survivors include his mother Jenny Hughes, Cross Roads; father Billy Hughes, Princeton; sister Jansyn Hughes, Cross Roads; maternal grandparents Ginger and Larry Scoggin, Cross Roads; paternal grandparents Charlyne and Don Hughes, Malakoff; maternal great-grandmother Jewel Carter, Gainesville; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers were Brad Scoggin, Alex Cummings, Johnny Hughes, Wesley Hughes, Danny Hughes and Jeff Tunnell.
Honorary pallbearers were his classmates of Cross roads School, Malakoff School and member of the Malakoff Tiger football team.

Truman Sallings
Services for Truman Joe “Bo” Sallings, 72, Mesquite, were held Jan. 23, 2008, at the Eubank Chapel in Canton with the Rev. Tommy Robertson Sr. officiating. Interment was in Haven of Memories Memorial Park in Canton under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.
Sallings was born Aug. 1, 1935, in Canton to Fannie Bell Gaskey and Roy Alfred Sallings and died Jan. 20, 2008, in Dallas. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Sallings in 2005.
He was Pentecostal by faith. Daddy, we will miss you so much. But we know that you are in a better place. No more pain, no more suffering. We know you are rejoicing with Mom now. Someday we will see you again in heaven.
Survivors include sons Joe Sallings, Mesquite; Larry Sallings, Gun Barrel City; Kenneth Sallings, Mesquite; Ray Roper and wife Shelly, Mesquite; and David Roper, Mesquite; daughters Mary Jordan and husband James, Scurry; and Selina East and husband James, Mabank; 29 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; brother Lonnie Sallings, Balch Springs; and sister Lelia Rhodes, Fruitvale.
Pallbearers were Wesley Wade Jr., Chace Sallings, Joshua Sallings, James Jordan, Covin Sallings, James East and Kenneth Sallings.
