Services for Sandra Joyce Ward, 59, Mabank, were held Feb. 4, 2009, at the Eubank Chapel with Brother Brian McWhorter officiating. Burial was in Cedar Creek Memorial Park under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.
Ward was born Aug. 26, 1949, in Shreveport, La., to Audry Elizabeth Fields and John Wesley Farmer and died Feb. 1, 2009, in Terrell.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew Ty Cline.
She was a Christian by faith and grew up in Vivian, La. She had lived in Mabank for the past 17 years and was an office manager for a doctor’s office for many years.
Survivors include her husband Donald Ward, Mabank; daughter Bridget Dawn Williams, Mabank; grandchildren Ka’Leigh Shadawn Wallace, Kristin Michelle Wallace and Erin-Jean Nicole Wallace; stepdaughter April Sawin, Kemp; stepgrandson Brice Michael Sawin, Kemp; sisters Cupid Kelly, Sarepta, La.; Sharon Pace, Vivian, La.; and Mary Farrington, Sarepta, La.; niece Jerri Mixon, Sarepta, La.; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Daren Williams, Jerry Ward, Jacky Ward, Paul Farrington, Gene Pace and Todd Iman.
Services for Gregory Timothy Handlin, 48, Payne Springs, were held Feb. 3, 2009, in the Anderson-Clayton Bros. Chapel with the Rev. Ed Schauer officiating. Interment was in Payne Springs Cemetery under the direction of Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Kemp.
Handlin was born Sept. 22, 1960, in Dallas to Betty Mankins and Walter Handlin and died Jan. 31, 2009, in Payne Springs.
He was preceded in death by his father, grandmother Vera Mankins and brother Mike Handlin.
Survivors include his wife Terri Handlin, Payne Springs; daughter Lexy Pelham, Payne Springs; mother Betty Handlin, Mabank; brothers Walter Handlin, Mabank; and Chris Handlin, Payne Springs; sisters Cynthia Tucker, Payne Springs; and Danna Handlin, Hurst; nephew Gene Handlin, Kemp; niece Kim Handlin, Olney; numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Todd Hamm, Gene Handlin, Walter Handlin, Brandon Grant, Carson Handlin, Chris Handlin and Randy Horton.
The family of Donald Emmit Decker, 72, Kemp, will have a private memorial service at a later date.
Decker was born May 23, 1936, in Middletown, N.Y., to Ruth and Hubert Decker and died Jan. 17, 2009, in Tyler.
Survivors include his children Wayne Decker, Cape Coral, Fla.; David Decker, White Plains, N.Y.; Billy Decker of New York; Ruth Decker, Jamestown, N.Y.; and Donna Hamilton, Kemp.
Services for Charlie R. McAnally, 93, Chandler, were held Feb. 3, 2009, at Eubank Funeral Chapel with the Revs. Mark Gosset, Dwight Prather and Kim Brunson officiating. Burial was in Elm Grove Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.
McAnally was born Nov. 22, 1915, in Wolfe City to Flora Curry and William Marvin McAnally and died Jan. 31, 2009, in Tyler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ethelene Shelton McAnally, daughters Glynis Geneva and Cheryl Lynn; son-in-law Jerry Bowers; six sisters and six brothers.
He was a member of China Grove Baptist Church and loved his ranch, horses, cows, being outdoors and watching animals.
He was married 63 years to his wife before her passing in 1997. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II.
Survivors include his sons Terry and wife Joyce McAnally, Mesquite; Jerry McAnally, Rotan Island, Honduras; and Garry and wife Frances McAnally, Chandler; daughter Flora and husband George Neville, Lorena; and Gil Bowers, Flint; 13 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Kent Neville, Shane McAnally, Dwaine Daugherty Jr., Waylon McAnally, Charlie McAnally II, Jason McAnnaly and Scott Neville.
Honorary pallbearers were Chase Johnson, Kristopher Neville, David Robinson, Justin Stocks and Ryan Neville.
Services for Shelly Denise Brown Wickersham, 41, were held Feb. 2, 2009, at Jaynes Memorial Chapel in Duncanville with the Revs. Alan Lynch and Wayne Trice officiating.
Wickersham was born Oct. 5, 1967, in Arlington and died Jan. 29, 2009.
She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1986, and Dallas Baptist University in 1998. She was a member of Alpha Chi National Honor Scholarship Society.
She taught school at Birdville ISD for two years and at Red Oak Elementary for seven years.
She was in the last semester of nursing school at Navarro College and was a member of Psi Beta National Honor Society.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and loved her church, First Baptist of Dallas and the Criswell Sunday School class.
She enjoyed her longhorn cattle and spending time on her farm in Eustace.
Survivors include her husband of seven years Charles H. Wickersham; parents Sue and Dennis Brown; sister Darla Poncio and husband Tony; nephews Braxton and Riley Poncio; stepdaughter Kathy Wickersham and husband Tommy Stevens; brother-in-law Ben Wickersham and wife Beverly; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and her beloved dog Hershey.
Services for Cleora D. Fleming, 87, Granbury, were held Jan. 31, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in Trinidad with Jimmy Steele officiating. Burial was in Trinidad Cemetery under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home in Malakoff.
Fleming was born Sept. 27, 1921, in Trinidad to the late Alice Smalling and Caroll Colvin Wright, and died Jan. 27, 2009, in Granbury.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband W.C. “Nubbin” Fleming Jr., brothers Lester Wright and Caroll Wright and sister Demetria Wright.
She worked at LTV in Fort Worth and wrote Trinidad news for The Malakoff News for many years.
Survivors include sons Terry and wife Linda Fleming, Houston, and Gary and wife Deborah Fleming, Granbury; brothers Beauford Wright, Rusk, and Maurice Wright, Henderson; granddaughters Tiffany and husband Jason Ashby, Houston, and Lauren Fleming, Granbury; grandsons Clark Fleming, Houston, and Justin Fleming, Granbury; and great-granddaughters Tessa and Amelia Ashby, Houston.
Pallbearers were Bill Miller, Bob Miller, Roy Stanfield, Ray Stanfield, Tommy Stanfield, Ricky Stanfield and Neal Koonce.
Services for Iris Helen Shackelford, 71, Mabank, were held at 10 a.m. Thursday (today), Feb. 5, at the Elm Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Hensley officiating under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank.
Shackelford was born Feb. 14, 1937, in Houston and died Feb. 2, 2009, in Kaufman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leila Augusta and Ottis Lee Cooke, and son Charles Shackelford.
Previously of Dallas, she had lived in Mabank for the past 37 years and was a member of the Central Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband Bobby G. Shackelford, Mabank; son Larry Shackelford, Charleston, S.C.; daughters Deborah Bomer, Arlington; Diane Young, Alvin; Sharon Kertz, Mary Esther, Fla.; and Carol Countryman, Tool; five sisters; one brother; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services for Harry Franklin Birdsong, 62, Mabank, were held Feb. 1, 2009, at the First Baptist Church in Mabank under the direction of Moorhead-Epps Funeral Home in Gun Barrel City.
Birdsong was born July 20, 1946, in Blossom to Harriet and Bulan Birdsong and died Jan. 30, 2009, in Mabank.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Sidney and Carl Birdsong.
He was a long-time resident of Mabank.
Survivors include his son Lance Birdsong, daughters Lori Birdsong and husband Kenny Gober and Amy Pryor and husband James; Lilligrace Birdsong and her mother Carol Birdsong, special friend and companion; brothers Bulan and Tommy Birdsong; and granddaughter Alexis Thedford.
