  McClintock, Busby take 2nds at rodeo

TERRELL–Kemp High School’s Josh McClintock and Mabank High School’s Kelsie Busby both took runner-up honors at the Lone Star High School Rodeo Association’s 23rd rodeo of the season March 8 at Wade’s Arena in Terrell.
McClintock took second place in bareback, while Busby took second place in poles.
Nicole Harrison of Kemp High School finished eighth in poles.
Busby also received a no time in steer undecorating.
Marcus Emmons of Eustace High School took fourth place in boys ribbon roping and Dustin Jackson of Mabank High School received a no time.
In calf roping, Emmons took seventh place, while Jackson received a no time.
Jackson also took sixth place in team roping as the heeler and received a no time as the header.
Bethany Norman of Mabank High School and Harrison both competed in barrels.

62 score wins MGA kickoff golf tourney

KEMP–The group of Glen Ewing, Bob Pickard, Derek Drab and David Ziegler took first place in the MGA Kickoff Tournament at the Cedar Creek Country Club March 15.
Ewing, Pickard, Drab and Ziegler combined for a round of 62 to head the field.
Second place went to the group of Andrew Jordan, George Case, Marshall Barton and Al Farley, who combined for a round of 64.
Close behind were Kurt Schumacher, Mike Roach, Marty Jackson and Buddy Hibbs, who combined for a round of 65.
Three other groups also combined to shoot rounds of 65, with fourth place going to David Cary, Jerry Jost, Mike Clement and Bruce Irwin.
Also shooting 65 were James Mashburn, Wes Verner, Sonny Roach and Ray Brown.
The group of Dan Merrill, Don Pearson, David Melton and Ron Jones shot 65, featuring a hole-in-one by Pearson on Hole No. 8 (see related story at left).
Daniel Hibbs, Stan Sowers, David Ziegler and Brent McDonald also posted a round of 65.
Two groups posted rounds of 66 – Rodney Wray, Danny Bradfield, Lee Ayers and Jimmy Hill, along with Stu Fowler, Charles Hetmer, Tom Green and Billy Tyler.
The group of Rod Hunt, Ken Green, Trever Thorne and Gary Gallatin posted a round of 67.
Coming in at 68 were Bob Weckherlin, Buddy Morgan, Terry Butler and Ivan Ray, while the group of Jonathan Hatfield, Randy Squibb, Jim Jones and C.V. Dellinger posted a 69.
In at 70 were Terry Brown, Bob Pearson, Bob Relyea and Randy Shelton.

MHS girls win Kerens meet

KERENS–For the first time in more than seven years, the Mabank High School Lady Panthers track team took first place as a team, winning the Kerens Bobcat Invitational March 13.
April Miller headed the effort, taking first place in the long jump with a leap of 15-8, and also winning the 100 meter dash in 12.36 seconds.
Miller also took third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.75 seconds, and ran the third leg of the 4x200 meter relay. The Lady Panther relay team (Crystal Morman, Tiffani Kale, Miller and Hilary Noble) finished second in 1:57.
Jeanice Mojica won the high jump competition, took second place in the 300 meter hurdles in 51.07 seconds, and also ran the opening leg for the winning 4x400 relay team.
The relay team (Mojica, Alyssa Balderas, Morman and Chelsey Dillon) won in 4:32.
Sadie Roberts won the 3200 meter run in 13:32, with Sara Springer taking fifth place in 14:22.
Roberts also took third place in the 800 meter run, clocking 2:58.
Springer took second in the 1600 meter run, clocking 6:34.
Mormon took second place in the 400 meter dash, while Balderas finished fourth in the 300 hurdles.
Balderas and Springer also ran legs in the 4x100 meter relay team, along with Kale and Noble, finishing fourth.
Melody “Mo” Lander took second place in the discus with a toss of 84 feet, while Noble and Ashleigh Wood also competed.
