Humane Society seeks art for
benefit auction
Monitor Staff Reports
SEVEN POINTS–The Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake is collecting
artwork, including paintings, glassware, crystal and small antiques and
collectibles for its upcoming art auction.
Donations of art may be dropped of by Friday, April 10 at Bluebonnet
Emporium, Whatz-Up, Edward Jones Investments in Mabank and on Tuesdays,
at Friends of the Animals in Gun Barrel City.
This is the third annual art auction being held to benefit the Humane
Society of Cedar Creek Lake. It will be held at Whatz-Up on Friday,
April 24.
For more information call Kay at (903) 451-4446, or Cynthia at (903)
451-0159.
The Shelter also reports wonderful success at placing its many kittens.
Volunteer Sue Ann Neumeyer has been taking a number of kittens and cats
to the PetCo in Mesquite on Sundays. Through her weekly trips, 18 cats
have been adopted out in just a few weeks.
However, Neumeyer will be unable to continue come June, so the Society
is looking for other volunteers to take this on, perhaps on a rotating
schedule.
If the Shelter should miss a week, PetCo may give their slot to another
organization.
Anyone willing to help with this are urged to call Neumeyer at (903)
681-5148 or Krista at (903) 603-2342.
Cats set for adoption have to be spayed or neutered beforehand. If you
can’t help with the transportation, but would like to help in other
ways, the Shelter is also looking for sponsors to pay the $30 to get
this done.
Sponsors may make tax-deductible donations to the Humane Society at
Cedar Creek Lake at P.O Box 53431 Seven Points, TX 75143.

Patriot Monument dedicated
Special to The Monitor
AUSTIN–Texas State Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) have been
working for more than two years to raise money for the Patriot’s
Monument that has been built at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin.
March 15, this monument was dedicated.
The Patriot Monument is a wonderful achievement that will stand as a
lasting testament to the Texas Patriots of the American Revolution.
Ruth Shelton, Nina Hendricks, Geneice Morris and Suzanne Fife, members
of the Sarah Maples chapter of the DAR, attended the dedication.
So far, 32 soldiers have been proven and their names engraved on the
monument, even though they may be buried elsewhere.
There are about 60 known soldiers buried all across the state of Texas.
If these soldiers have on their tombstones they were in the
Revolutionary War, it still has to be proven by a DAR member.
Members are still working on the proof of the others and as soon as that
is accomplished their names will be added to the monument.
We hope all the citizens of Texas will stop by and visit this old
cemetery and take a look at the Patriot Monument.
The Sarah Maples Chapter is very proud to have been involved in this
worthy project.
