Youth football, cheer signups set
Monitor Staff Reports
KEMP–Trinity Valley Youth Sports Association is accepting registrations
for participants in football cheer and drill for ages 5-12.
Kemp signups were scheduled to open from 2-5 p.m. Saturday during the
Kemp Spring Festival at the city park.
The Kemp Dairy Queen will host signups from 6-8 p.m. three Fridays,
April 3, 10 and 17.
Signups are also scheduled three Saturdays next to the Sutton Vegetable
Stand on U.S. Highway 175, April 25, May 2 and May 16. Times have not
yet been set.

Kemp runners set records at Van

VAN–A small Kemp High School contingent did well at the annual Al Rholes
Relays in Van Saturday, scoring 24 points and setting some new school
records.
Sophomore Michelle Ritterbach set a new school record with her time in
the 400 meter run, where she finished sixth overall.
The boys 400 meter relay team – Landon Roberts, Lance Roberts, Wesley
Kerr and Korey Henderson – finished fourth and also set a new school
record.
Kerr also took third place in the long jump with a leap of 20-3¾.
Jeremy Quick took second in the 110 high hurdles, clocking 16 seconds
even.
Kimmie Gorka took fifth place in the 200 meter dash, while Meagan Lacy
finished sixth in the 100 meter hurdles.
Kemp’s 400 meter girls relay team – Amanda Lawrence, Gorka, Ritterbach
and Lacy – finished sixth overall.
Xtreme
dominates Warriors, 47-0

ATHENS–The Texas Xtreme semi-professional football team crushed the
visiting Texarkana Warriors 47-0 Saturday night at Bruce Field in
Athens, as they dominated every phase of the game.
Xtreme coaches Larry Anding and Gary Craig were once again pleased with
the overall performance of their team.
Offensively, the Xtreme were without the services of running backs Jamon
Edwards, Karlicarius Beechum and seven-time All-Star lineman Jerry
Martin.
Quarterback Marcus Bowman completed 8-of-18 passes for 161 yards, and
gained 62 rushing yards on seven carries, including touchdown runs of 21
and 12 yards.
Brandon Thompson added 61 yards on eight carries, Charles Franklin
chipped in 26 yards on five carries and linebacker Lonterio Osborn
contributed 18 yards on three attempts.
Zack Guillory led all receivers with 114 yards on four catches and Angel
Nave connected on field goals of 28 and 38 yards.
Other offensive standouts were Adrian Gonzalez, Lemarcus Means, Victor
Moore and two-way performer Flim Kindle. Moore was making his first
appearance since the 2007 season.
In addition to Nave’s field goals, the Xtreme kick return team scored
when cornerback Reggie Calhoun returned a Warriors punt for 80 yards and
a touchdown.
The other cornerback, Nico Adams, also contributed a 43-yard punt
return.
The Xtreme defense dominated the Warriors offense, limiting the visitors
to 46 total yards.
Texarkana completed just one of 11 passes for 11 yards while suffering
three interceptions, and gained 35 rushing yards on 23 carries.
Kerry Yarbrough recorded two sacks and scored one touchdown, Rondacious
Floyd had one sack and scored a touchdown and Brandon Lyons returned one
interception 63 yards for a touchdown.
Lonterio Osborn had two sacks and a fumble recovery, Lance Powell also
had two sacks.
Jason Anding had one sack and an interception, Adams also had an
interception, bringing his season total to seven interceptions.
Other defensive standouts were Clifton Wimbush and Cedric Kiser.
Xtreme sack leader John Litchfiled was unavailable, due to a broken rib
received in the previous game.
The Xtreme will travel to Shreveport, La., Saturday, March 28, for the
first of four consecutive road games.
