  Third annual Courtney Howard golf tournament set April 14

KEMP–The third annual Courtney Howard Memorial Golf Tournament is set for Monday, April 14, at the Cedar Creek Country Club.
Entry fee is $75 per player, with proceeds going to the Courtney Howard Foundation, which provides scholarships to local high school students, and benefits other local charities.
The event opens with lunch at 11 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at noon.
At 10 a.m., Mabank High School graduate and touring professional golfer Adrienne Gautreaux McDonald will be giving a demonstration clinic.
A hole-in-one prize will be provided by Teague Chevrolet, and other prizes include a Weber grill and a shotgun.

Dillon sets new meet record; Bettis takes individual mark

CRANDALL–Mabank High School junior Chelsey Dillon set a new meet record in the 3200 meter run and Kemp High School’s Sharda Bettis won the individual high point award at the annual Coca-Cola Relays at Crandall High School March 27.
Bettis collected a total of 29 points to lead all athletes at the meet.

Dillon finished the 3200 run in 12:10, and also took second place in the 800 run with a time of 2:31.
Bettis won both the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, and took second place in the triple jump, as well as anchoring Kemp’s 400 meter relay team, which finished fifth.
Mabank’s Sara Springer and Sadie Roberts finished sixth in the 3200 run, clocking 13:27.
Lady Panther April Miller took second place in both the 100 meter dash and the 200 dash, clocking 12.8 in the 100 and 28.12 in the 200.
Mabank’s Allison Butler took third place in the high jump, while Crystal Morman took fifth place in the 400 meter run, clocking 67.44.
The Lady Panthers 4x400 relay team, with Mormon, Roberts, Jeanice Mojica and Dillon, finished fifth, clocking 4:34.
Kemp’s Kimmi Gorka took second place in the long jump and fourth place in the triple jump, and finished sixth in the 200 meter dash.
Gorka also ran the second leg of the 400 relay and the 800 relay race along with Amanda Lawrence, Michelle Ritterbach and Hailey Hall.
Gorka, Lawrence and Ritterbach joined Bettis for the 400 relay.
Meagan Lacy finished fourth in the 300 hurdles, and anchored the 1600 relay team (with Lawrence, Amber Brewer and Ritterbach).

In the boys division, Kemp’s Wesley Kerr took fifth place in the long jump with a leap of 18-2¼.
Jeremy Quick ran in the 110 high hurdles and Nick Lane ran in the 100 meter dash, but their times were not listed.

EHS wins Malakoff meet; 3 qualify for Texas Relays

MALAKOFF–Eustace High School’s girls and boys both won their respective divisions at the annual Malakoff Tiger Relays track meet March 27.
Eustace will host the District 13-3A track meet Monday and Tuesday, April 7-8, and will also host a Regional Qualifiers meet Friday, April 18.
Bulldog Zach Keeling set a new school record and a personal best in the high jump with a leap of 6-6 at the Tiger Relays.
Keeling is one of three Eustace track members to qualify for the annual Texas Relays in Austin Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, having already leaped 6-4.
Lady Bulldog Chelsea Truitt qualified for the Texas Relays in two different events – the pole vault, leaping 10-0, and the 100 meter hurdles, with a time of 16.4 seconds.

Keeling set a new school record in the high jump last weekend, while Truitt qualified in both the pole vault and 100 hurdles and Coffey qualified in the 110 high hurdles.

Bulldog Cameron Coffey has also made his mark in the hurdles races this year, qualifying for the Texas Relays 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 15.1 seconds, a time he bettered at Malakoff, clocking 14.77 seconds.
Coffey also won the 300 intermediate hurdles at Malakoff, clocking 40.62 seconds.
Truitt won both hurdles races at Malakoff, winning the 100 in 16.53 and winning the 300 in 48.26. She also won the pole vault with a leap of 8-0 and finished second in the long jump at 15-5.
