New girls’ record set at weekend track event

MABANK–A varsity girls track record set in 1998 was broken Saturday during the Cedar Creek Relays held at Panther Stadium in Mabank.
Mabank sophomore Chelsey Dillon ran the 3,200 meters in 11:40, smashing a record set by Amy Butler in 1998 who ran it in 12:05.
Mabank sophomore Andrea Ledezma came in fifth in that event.
Overall, the Mabank varsity girls came in second with 121 points.
Rockwall Heath easily won the track and field event with 150 points. Kemp took third with 83 points, and Palestine Westwood came in last of the four schools participating in the annual event with 76 points.
In the high jump Allison Butler tied with Rockwall Heath clearing 4-8.
In the 1600 meter dash, Dillon again proved the top performer finishing the course in 5:40.03 with Kemp’s Donovan right behind her with 5:43.69.
In the 800 meter dash, Mabank was outmatched by Rockwall Health’s best time of 2:33:59 and Palestine Westwood’s time of 2:48.81. Mabank’s Allison Butler with 2:50.83 and Whitney Cathey’s time of 3:36.17 completed the times.
In the 400 meter dash, the top times went to Rockwall Heath runners with Kemp coming in fourth at 1:18.28 followed by Mabank runners Rachel Lee and Whitney Cathey.
In the 200 meter dash, Mabank’s April Miller came in second with 27.41 finishing time Two more Mabank runners brought in the last runners with times of 29.79 and 30.34.
In the 100 meter dash, Mabank’s April Miller performed a 12.62 finished just behind the Rockwall Heath leader of 12.47, and Kemp’s Hunter came in third with 13.70.
In the 1600 meter relay, Mabank finished last with 4:41.18 to Kemp’s 4:39.78, Palestine Westwood’s 4:20.72 and top team’s Rockwall Heath’s 4:17.21.
In the 800 meter relay, Mabank finished third behind Palestine Westwood and Rockwall Heath.
In the 400 meter relay, the Mabank team of Pam Black, Chelsea Alldredge, Miranda Groom and April Miller squeaked by into first place with a time of 53:18 over Kemp’s time of 53.22 and Palestine Westwood of 53:72.
In the 300 meter hurdles, Mabank’s Pam Black competition with a finishing time of 52.90. Mabank’s and Valerie Manning came in third, followed by Kemp’s two runners.
In the 110 meter hurdles, Alldredge again shone with a time of 18.13 to finish second.
Kemp’s runners Lacy and Gorka came in third and fourth respectively with 18.15 and 18.72.

Mabank boys place third at Cedar Creek Relays

MABANK–Mabank’s varsity boys placed third overall at the Cedar Creek Lake Relays hosted at Panther Stadium Saturday.
The track and field event attracted five schools.
Palestine Westwood was the overall winner with 131 points, Rockwall Heath came in second with 120 points, Mabank, third with 107, Athens, 62 and Kemp 16.
Mabank’s strongest event was the 110 meter hurdles, where Mabank’s Walker came in first with a finishing time of 17.94. In the 300 meter hurdles, Mabank’s Fisher came in third out of a field of six with a time of 44.81.
Another strong event was the high jump. Mabank’s Brady came in second to Rockwall Heath with a jump of 6 feet.
Kemp’s strongest event was the 100 meter dash in which Kemp’s Farmer led the event with a finishing time of 11.45.
In the relays, Mabank and Kemp brought in the slowest times on the 200 meter relays with times of 44.22 and 45.59, respectively.
Mabank had three long distrance runners in the 1600 meter event, taking second through fourth place. Boyle finished in 5:05.62, Burkhalter, 5:13.15 and Krugler, with 5:20.47.

Kemp boys, Mabank girls lead in district golf

KEMP – Kemp “A” boys and Mabank girls took the lead in the first day of the two-day District 13-3A golf tournament hosted by Cedar Creek Country Club April 2.
Kemp “A” boys posted a round of 352 and Mabank girls posted a round of 447.
The second and last day of district play is scheduled for Monday April 9 at Creekview Golf Club in Crandall.
The two combined low scoring boys and girls teams will advance to play at regionals at Tanglewood in Pottsboro.
