Gala set to benefit wounded ET military and their families
Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation sets May 2 dinner at Tara Vineyard and Winery
Special to The Monitor
CEDAR CREEK LAKE–Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation (CCVF) is holding a gala benefit to support wounded military personnel and their families as they regain their pre-combat lives.
The From Texas to Tuscany gala is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at the beautiful Tara Vineyard and Winery just north of Athens.
Tickets for the event are $125, with a significant portion of the cost benefitting the CCVF.
Ticket holders will be treated to a gourmet Italian dinner and tastings from selected premium red and white wines produced by the Tara Vineyard and Winery.
The winery is owned and operated by the Pierce family, and is the oldest winery in Henderson County.
It has recently become home to the stately Murchison mansion from the 1880s, which will soon welcome guests as the Tara Inn.
Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Dallas band Blue Collar Crime, a Texas-style blues rock band that gets its inspiration from artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Muddy Waters and George Thorogood.
Blue Collar Crime is made up of four lawyers, one of whom is also a judge, and a Dallas-area guitar legend.
Blue Collar Crime generously donates much of the proceeds from its performances to various charitable causes, including the (CCVF), a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization, started in 2008 by a group of mostly Cedar Creek Lake area residents.
Its mission is to raise funds that will ensure that wounded veterans and military personnel from Northeast Texas returning from battle in the Middle East and Afghanistan and their families will receive all the treatment and assistance they need to recover and return to their pre-combat lives.
The CCVF serves this cause by helping fund well-established non-profit organizations such as Fisher House, which furnishes housing for military and their families while treatment is being received at the VA Hospital in Dallas.
In addition to the Gala, the CCVF raises funds primarily through the Thunder Over Cedar Creek Lake Air Show on July 4.
The Air Show will feature several hours of military and civilian aircraft including a MIG 17, an L-29, a B-52 and others.
The spectacular display will also showcase the Tora Tora Tora fleet, from the movie of the same name, which recreates a World War II-era battle with Japanese Zeros.
Many other planes, one with a wing walker, jumpers and many other aircraft will also perform in the show. The CCVF is seeking both sponsors and volunteers for its events.
For more information about the Air Show, the CCVF or to order tickets for the Gala, please call Bob O’Neil at (903) 681-4546 or go to www.ccveteransfoundation.org
For more information about the Tara Vineyard and Winery, please call (903) 675-7023 or contact the special event coordinator Dacia Williams at (281) 755-5227 or e-mail sipoftexas@tarawinery.com
