Services for Ruby Nadine Furgerson, 79, were held April 13, 2007, in Arlington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Moore Memorial Gardens.
Furgerson was born June 4, 1927, and died April 9, 2007.
She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years Jim Edd Furgerson; sons Douglas Furgerson and wife Deb; Michael Furgerson and wife Vanessa; Dennis Furgerson and wife Susie; and Greg McKinney and wife Debbie; daughters Paula Furgerson and Janis Betts; sisters Geneva Miller, Margie Anderson and husband Earl; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
Services for Ewell Glenn Venable, 86, Mabank, were held April 12, 2007, at the Payne Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Diller officiating. Burial was in Hughes Cemetery in Avalon under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank.
Venable died April 9, 2007, in Mabank. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Jean Smith Venable, two brothers and four sisters.
Previously of Waxahachie, he had lived in Mabank for the past 25 years and was a member of the Payne Springs United Methodist Church. He was a mechanic and Mason and was active in all Masonic bodies.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. during World War II.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Venable, Mabank; sons Joe Glen Venable and wife Chris, Dawson; and Jack Lynn Venable and wife Patty, Hunt County; daughter Jane Venable Peterson and husband John, Lake Way; grandchildren Joe Venable Jr., Stephanie Wheeler, Michelle, Stephen Venable, Robert Venable, Stacy Venable and Brandy Peterson; six great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Services for Irma “Sue” Hyre, 62, Mabank, were held April 7, 2007, at the First Baptist Church of Eustace with the Rev. Paul McKinney officiating under the direction Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank.
Hyre was born June 12, 1944, in Dade City, Fla., and died April 5, 2007, in Dallas. She was preceded in death by her grandchildren Chelsea Hyre and Dwayne Hyre Jr.
Previously of Florida, she had lived in Mabank for the past 29 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eustace for the past five years. She was affectionately known as “Memaw.”
Survivors include her husband Tracy Hyre, Mabank; daughters Cindy Baker, Pam Peterson and husband Rodney; Lynda Slay and husband Donald; and Tina Jackson and husband Jay; son Dwayne Hyre and wife Michele; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a host of family and friends from Florida, Pennsylvania, Texas and California.
Services for Karen Rena Page Pouncey, 47, Athens, were held April 13, 2007, at the Eubank Chapel, Canton with Doug and Dan Page officiating. Burial was in High Cemetery, Van Zandt County.
Pouncey was born Nov. 1, 1959, in Conroe to Reverdie Alton and LaVerne Russell Page and died April 9, 2007, in Tyler after a sudden illness.
She was a member of the West Athens Baptist Church and was a wedding coordinator for many years. She grew up in Mesquite and graduated from Cleveland High School in Cleveland. She married Ralph Pouncey Sept. 10, 1977, and was a great wife, mother, sister and Nana. She was always willing to take care of others.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years Ralph Curtis Pouncey Sr., Athens; sons Ralph Curtis Pouncey Jr. and wife Susan, Mesquite; and John Ashton Nathaniel Pouncey, Athens; daughters Rochell Annette Pouncey, Athens; Michell Dannette Sikes, Canton; and Layla Rose Dannette Pouncey, Athens; father Alton Page, Balch Springs; grandchildren Zachary, Cora, Lydia, Kayla and Francis; brothers Daron Page and wife Cindy, Mabank; and Kelly Page, Corsicana.
Pallbearers were Donny Walker, Tommy Pouncey, Jimbo Pouncey, Brandon Page, Randy Russell, David Stone and Charlie Pouncey.
Jo Ann Mennel
Services for Jo Ann Mennel, 61, Gun Barrel City, were held April 15, 2007, at King Cemetery with Mickey Loftis officiating under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home in Seven Points.
Mennel was born Aug. 17, 1945, in Peoria, Ill., the daughter of the late Joseph Maharry and Helen Mathers and died April 10, 2007.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband Leroy Mennel and sons Richard Leroy Mennel, Reno, Nev.; LeRoy and Melainie Mennel Jr., Mesquite; and Robert and Angela Mennel, Balch Springs; sister Mary Francis; brothers, Harold, Gene, Larry and Joe; and seven grandchildren.
Ida W. Davis
Services for Ida W. Davis, 85, Mabank, were held April 12, 2007, at the Eubank Chapel in Canton with Brother Tinker Frazier officiating.
Interment was in Haven of Memories Memorial Park in Canton.
Davis was born Sept. 27, 1921, in Bonham to Dennis Clovis and Julia Ann Wells Whitney and died April 9, 2007, in Log Cabin.
She grew up in Bonham and worked for Western Electric 27 years.
She lived in Irving for 23 years and moved to Mabank two years ago. She was a Baptist by faith.
Survivors include her sons Wayne Malone and wife Tina, Log Cabin; and Garland Malone and wife Laura, Wyoming; daughters Shirley Frazier and husband Tinker, Mississippi; and Dorothy Malone, Payne Springs; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Samuel Downing Jr.
A memorial service was held for Samuel D. Downing Jr., 77, April 14, 2007, at Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home in Kaufman.
Downing died April 11, 2007.
A celebration of his life was held at his daughter’s home at 503 Carriage Trail in Rockwall, immediately following the service.
