Mabank ISD Education Foundation teams up with Ford
Special to The Monitor
MABANK–Saturday, May 7, will be a busy day in Mabank.
In addition to hot rods and crawfish, an assortment of brand-new Fords from Tri-County Ford will be lined up at the Mabank Pavilion, ready to be test driven during the fifth annual Cedar Creek Lake Car Show & Kiwanis Krawfish Boil.
The test drive program is part of a fundraising event for the Mabank ISD Education Foundation.
The “Drive One 4 UR School” program was developed as a fun, engaging way to help schools raise money to support extracurricular activities.
Ford and Ford/Lincoln dealerships partner with a local school or foundation to conduct a test-drive fundraising event.
For every valid test-drive completed, Ford Motor Company will donate $20, up to $6,000!
So, the more people who test-drive a Ford or Lincoln vehicle at the event, the more money can be raised!
Where do the funds go? Currently, an education foundation selection committee is reviewing grant applications submitted by innovative Mabank teachers and staff.
The Mabank ISD Education Foundation will dedicate at least $14,000 to funding grants this spring.
If you would like more information on the foundation please visit www.mabankisdeducationfoundation.com
The Foundation encourages community involvement and support, not only through the donation of resources to benefit Mabank schools, but also through increased community awareness, support and engagement.
Come “Drive One 4 UR School” May 7.
The Cedar Creek Lake Car Show & Kiwanis Krawfish Boil opens at 8 a.m. and will end after the awards ceremony at 3 p.m.
For more information, contact the Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce at (903) 887-3152 or info@cedarcreeklakechamber.com

Kaufman County cleans up illegal tire dumps
Special to the Monitor
KAUFMAN–In January, Kaufman County abatement officers assisted in the cleanup of a large illegal dump site in Elmo, located in Precinct 3.
The primary concern was a large number of discarded tires.
Thanks to the stop illegal dumping grant awarded to Kaufman County through the North Central Texas Council of Governments and with funds from the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality (TCEQ), more than 850 tires were hauled to a recycler in the Metroplex area.
Currently the environmental officers are overseeing another large tire removal from an illegal dump site in Precinct 4.
A final tire haul is being looked into following the Friday and Saturday, May 13-14 County-Wide cleanup event.
Illegally disposed litter, trash, garbage and hazardous waste are all threats to public health.
The responsible parties face fines ranging from a minimum of $500 to $4,000 and a year in jail for misdemeanor charges..
Felony dumping cases are punishable with fines up to $1,000,000 and life imprisonment or death.
Your local maintenance barn accepts used motor oil and filters free of charge.
To dispose of other household hazardous waste (HHW), all Kaufman County residents must go to the Eco-station in Kemp.
Cost is currently $10 for each 25 pounds of HHW.
For information on waste disposal call (903) 498-4135.
To report illegal dumping call the hotline at 888-335-3867.
