Forney run-rules Panthers
Monitor Staff Reports
MABANK–An eight-run fifth inning, followed by a six-run sixth proved to
be more than enough for the Forney Jackrabbits Tuesday, as they
run-ruled the error-prone Mabank Panthers 16-3.
Forney improved to 7-3 in District 15-4A baseball play, while the
Panthers fell to 2-8 in district and 7-12 on the season.
The
Panthers were scheduled to host Lancaster for “senior night” Friday
(their first-round matchup was played in Lancaster due to wet grounds).

Panther shortstop Cameron Cantrell (2) as Forney Jackrabbit Patrick
Youngman (5) slides in safely to steal second base during the fifth
inning of Forney's 16-3 win over hosting Mabank Tuesday. Forney scored
eight runs in the inning.
Following an open date Tuesday, April 28, the Panthers are scheduled
to wind up the second round and the regular season at home Friday, May
1, against West Mesquite.
Tuesday, the Panthers and the Jackrabbits stayed pretty close for the
first four innings.
Forney took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when a fielding error
allowed one run, but the Panthers came back to tie the score at 1-1 in
the bottom of the inning.
Senior Kolton Browning led off with a double, and after two outs, Dustin
Schultz doubled in Browning.
Forney scored in the top of the third inning when Panther starter Chancz
Sullivan hit the batter, who stole second and was singled home.
Sullivan, who had 10 strikeouts in four innings of work, struck out the
next two batters to end the threat.
Forney threatened again in the top of the fourth, but stranded two
batters on a fly out, while the Panthers struck out in order.
Errors proved to be the downfall of the Panthers, particularly in the
disastrous fifth inning, when they had nine miscues.
Eight straight Forney batters scored before the Panthers could string
together three outs in the final four batters.
Mabank scored in the bottom of the fifth when Jordan Featherston walked
and was singled home by Jacob Walker.
Forney put six more runs on the board in the top of the sixth inning,
helped along by two Panther errors.
Mabank fans were heartened a little when Browning led off the bottom of
the sixth by lining the first pitch over the left-field wall for the
Panthers’ third run.
The Panthers worked hard to extend the contest, loading the bases, but
left the runners stranded on a final strikeout.
