RX meds drop-off set in Kaufman
Special to The Monitor
KAUFMAN–The Kaufman County Sherriff’s Office and the Kaufman Police Department announces theirr participation in the nationwide prescription drug “TakeBack” initiative that seeks to prevent pill abuse and theft.
Often, young people only have to go as far as the medicine cabinet at home to find drugs.
To combat this growing problem, both locally and nationally, the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Kaufman Police Department, is partnering with the DEA and other agencies to offer the citizens of the county and city a place to drop off any unused, unwanted or outdated prescriptions, with no questions asked.
Please join us from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011, to take this opportunity to assure the community that they are doing everything within their power to combat the abuse of drugs – both illicit and illegal prescription drugs.
Also, use this opportunity to openly discuss with the young people in your household about the dangers of prescription drugs.
Drop-off locations are at the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office located on 1900 East Highway 175 and the Kaufman Police Department at 105 East Chestnut St. in Kaufman.

CrimeStoppers gives reward
Special to The Monitor
WILLS POINT–An anonymous tip, leading to the arrest of two Wills Point men on drug, weapons and theft charges, has resulted in a $1,000 reward from the Van Zandt County CrimeStoppers.
The arrest of the two men was made following a call to the CrimeStoppers hotline.
The men were identified as Raymond Ybarra, 60, and Thomas Jacobs, 39, both of Wills Point.
They were arrested at a Wills Point residence and found to be in possession of a significant amount of methamphetamines, as well as two weapons and a stolen 16-foot flatbed trailer, according to the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office.
A third man fled from the scene at the time of the arrest and deputies are looking for him.
“This was a very successful arrest, thanks to the initial CrimeStoppers tip,” said Andy Flowers, president of Van Zandt CrimeStoppers.
“The charges are serious, and we believe this tip was worth our maximum reward. Our objective is to get criminals off the street, and we have the money in the bank to give to people who help us do that,” he added.
Van Zandt CrimeStoppers always offers cash rewards for anonymous tips that lead to the arrest of a criminal offender, someone who has either just committed a crime or is wanted on a warrant.
By calling (903) 567-STOP (7867), you can anonymously provide information about a crime.
When you call, you are given a special code number. After the crime is solved or the individual is arrested, you can use that code number to arrange to collect your cash reward.
CrimeStoppers never have to give their names or any identifying information.
