By Sam Epps

KAUFMAN–The Lady Bulldogs softball team made school history Monday by going to its first-ever playoff game.
The Lady Bulldogs took second place in District 14-2A, and faced the District 13-2A third-place team – the Sunnyvale Lady Raiders – Monday in Kaufman. Sunnyvale defeated Eustace, 10-0, to advance to the area round of the playoffs.
The Lady Raiders scored a run in the top of the first inning, and for the next three-and-a-half frames, the scored remained 1-0.
In the top of the fifth inning, the Sunnyvale bats began to find their mark, and the softball found holes left and right.
The Lady Raiders scored three runs in the fifth.
The trend continued, with the Lady Raiders scoring four more runs in the sixth, and two more in the seventh to take a 10-0 lead, closing the books on the Lady Bulldogs’ season.
Lady Bulldogs Haley Compton, pitcher Casey Bramblitt, Shelby Stegent and Ashleigh White all hit singles for Eustace. White also reached base on a walk, as did Megan Renteria.
Bramblitt got the loss in the contest, but struck out five Sunnyvale batters in five and two-thirds innings.
The Lady Bulldogs now look forward to next year, with a large core of this year’s team remaining.
They will say goobye to graduating seniors Renteria, Kaitlyn Beebe and Shelby Stegent.
