Monitor Staff Reports
CEDAR CREEK LAKE–Area players were named to four of the
five superlative positions on the District 13-3A all-district baseball
team.
Kemp won the district championship with a 9-1 record, with Crandall
defeating Mabank in the next-to-last game to secure the second-place
playoff berth. Mabank took the third-place berth.
Crandall senior Bryce Bjorkland was named the district’s Most Valuable
Player, while the Kemp coaches were named the district’s top staff.
Eustace junior Lucas Cope was tabbed as the “Offensive Player of the
Year,” while freshman teammate Chris Compton was named the “Newcomer of
the Year.”
Kemp senior Dalton Fugitt, who saw time at second base and third base,
was named as the district’s “Utility Player of the Year.”
Kemp senior catcher Bret Kennedy and Crandall senior Adam Werner were
named as the “Co-Defensive Players of the Year.”
District coaches named 20 players to first-team positions, including
four pitchers, seven infielders and seven outfielders.
Eustace sophomore Ryan Compton was tabbed as the only first-team
catcher, while senior teammate Mike Cook was the only first-team
designated hitter.
Coaches named Kemp junior Nick Sallings and Mabank sophomore Kolton
Browning as first-team pitchers, joining Crandall senior Josh Blunt and
Ferris junior Izzy Munoz.
Mabank senior first baseman David Taylor and Kemp junior shortstop Matt
Carr were both named to the first-team infield. Carr was one of three
unanimous selections.
Joining them as infielders were Crandall seniors William Wood, Dalton
Good and Zach Ragsdale (a unanimous pick), along with Kaufman senior
Michael Cox and Ferris junior Matt Garcia.
Mabank senior Mark Good was a unanimous pick for the first-team
outfield.
Joining Groom were Eustace senior Aaron Coffey, along with Kemp senior
Leif Skierski and junior teammate Mikie Scruggs.
Also named to the first-team outfield were Crandall senior Cary McSwain,
Kaufman senior Nathan Crow and Ferris senior George Loa.
Coaches named two second-team pitchers, Ferris senior Matt Batchler and
Crandall junior Nolen Cornett.
Six second-team infielders were named, including Eustace junior first
baseman Brandon Grayson and Kemp sophomore first baseman Josh Carr.
Also named were Ferris senior Felipe Ortiz and junior Spencer Piner,
Crandall senior Josh Barton and Kaufman sophomore McCrae Jones.
Eustace juniors Rusty Hart and Cameron Coffey were named to the
second-team outfield, along with Mabank senior Chris Trejo and Kemp
junior Cody Kuehn.
Also named were Crandall senior Colton Kvapil and Ferris junior Damien
Delesbour.
Ferris junior Jacob Flores was named as the second-team catcher, while
teammate Payden Bertrand was the second-team designated hitter.
