MABANK–Friends and family congratulated Mabank High School
seniors on the many accomplishments they achieved throughout
their four years of high school during a senior awards ceremony
May 14 held at the school. The community added their
recognitions with the giving out of scholarships from funds each
group worked hard to collect.
In addition, Trinity Valley Community College gave out 24
tuition assists in the form of $1,800 to those in the top 10
percent of their class.
Four students were given between $80,000 and $100,000 in
scholarship funding from the U.S. Air Force, Army and Marine
Corps.
All awards totaled $442,950 for Mabank students from the class
of 2012.
Principal Brad Koskelin introduced this year’s Valedictorian Max
Irion and Salutatorian Alison Mitchell. (Read more about them on
the cover of the May 17 issue of The Monitor.)
Max is the son of Denise and Jeffrey Irion and plans to attend
the University of Hawaii at Manoa to study global environmental
science.
Alison is the daughter of Darlene and Eugene Mitchell and she
plans to major in music education at Northwestern State
University. Under her leadership, the Mabank Drum line achieved
the highest ranking it has ever achieved.
Graduation is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at the Garland
Special Events Center.
