Lick, Mahoney, Esparza and Floyd
win KofC tournament

KEMP–The team of Eddy Lick, Chris Mahoney, Michael Esparza and Damon
Floyd took first place at the 10th annual Knights of Columbus
scholarship golf tournament May 23.
A far smaller field turned out for this year’s tournament at Kings Creek
Golf Course – nine teams and a pair, 38 players in all, compared to last
year’s 19-team field.
The winning team posted a 15-under-par score in the four-man-scramble
tournament.
Second place went to the team of J.W. Cotton, Chris Meyer, Matt Wright
and Jake McKnight, who posted a 14-under score.
Also posting a 14-under score was the third-place team of Johnny Hickson,
Noah Hickson, Billy Hickson and Boyse Wood.
The tournament’s high score – 52 over par – was posted by the team of
Jim Boyles, Pat Roush, Bob Harwith and Walter Stanley.
Mahoney and Wood nailed the two “closest to the pin” prizes, while the
“longest drive” prize went to J.W. Floyd.

Sallings All-Star

KEMP–Kemp High School senior Nick Sallings has been selected to the
Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star game.
The All-Star game is set for Saturday, June 14, in Round Rock.
Sallings, who was named to the first-team infield by District 13-3A
coaches, was selected a third base – one of four third basemen named
from the entire state in Class 3A.
Kemp to host baseball camp

KEMP–Kemp High School will host the inaugural East Texas Baseball Camp
for boys 8-14 at the new baseball field, next to Yellowjacket Stadium,
Tuesday through Thursday, June 3-5.
Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon each day. Cost is $45 per camper,
or $75 for two in the same family.
Early registration is encouraged; late enrollment will open at 8 a.m.
Monday, June 2.
KHS head baseball coach Cody Ross and his staff will conduct the camp,
working on fundamentals – pitching, fielding, running/sliding and
hitting – with game competition each day.
Awards will be presented for hustle, behavior, attitude, leadership and
hard work. Each camper will receive a T-shirt.
