Golfers sought for new
benefit tournament
Monitor Staff Reports
KEMP–A new golf tournament set Monday, June
18, at the Cedar Creek Country Club will benefit a proposed new Kaufman
County Children’s Advocacy Center.
The Kaufman Economic Development Corporation is seeking to raise $30,000
to match with a $30,000 grant.
The need for an advocacy center has been endorsed by all county judges,
the district attorney, the Public Defender’s Office, the county justices
of the peace, the sheriff and most law enforcement agencies, as well as
many county religious leaders.
Golfers will be allowed to choose one of two formats when they sign up –
either a traditional scramble or stroke play.
Under the stroke play format, golfers from each Kaufman County
city/community will play against each other – Kaufman vs. Forney vs.
Mabank vs. Kemp vs. Scurry/Rosser vs. Terrell.
Each city will be allowed as many golfers as sign up, and each golfer
plays his/her ball.
Lowest scores will be registered for each city on each hole, and then
compared. The winning city will secure the new Kaufman County Cup, now
being designed by Michelle Joseph of Crandall.
Hole sponsors and other sponsors are being sought. A $1,000 sponsorship
(lunch or hat) will include registration for four golfers and signs.
A major sponsor ($500) will include registration for four golfers and
two holes, while a hole-sponsor sign is $100.
Each four-player team fee is $280, with a two-player team $150.
Individual golfers may register for $85.
Kaufman EDC Executive Director Lee Ayers is the committee chair. For
more information, contact Ayers at (972) 932-5332. For signup forms,
stop by the Kaufman Chamber of Commerce office at 2100 S. Washington St.
in Kaufman, or call (972) 932-3118.
