Graveside services for George Eugene Woods, 78, Mabank, were held June 11, 2010, at the North West Louisiana Veterans Cemetery near Keithville, La., with military honors. His ashes will be interred in the cemetery.
Woods was born Oct. 31, 1930, in Marshall to Iva Orvetta Cates and Irvin Miller Woods Sr. and died Jan. 21, 2009.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joe, Irvin, Robert and Dan, and sisters Ann, Edith, Florence and Cora Lee Burns.
Woods was drafted into the Marine Corps in 1952 and served in the Korean War.
He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with oak leaf cluster and the United National Service Medal.
After retirement from the service, he worked in Garland for Continental Emsco until retirement.
He worked with leather and enjoyed yard work. He moved to Mabank in 2008.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Janice Hoefs Woods; stepsons Charles Raymond Kohel and William Robert Kohel, Homer, La.; stepdaughters Carol Ann Leonard, Kay Rush and Susan Kohel; grandchildren Bradon Rush, Aimee McMahan and A.J. Pustejousky III; brothers Howard, Bill, Jim and Huey Woods; sisters Lucille Sullivan and Wanda Watkins; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Ella Russell
Services for Mary Ella Russell, 95, Gun Barrel City, were held June 17, 2010, at the Mabank Church of Christ with Bob Patterson officiating. Interment was in Rice Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank.
Russell was born May 2, 1915, in Smithville, Miss., and died June 14, 2010, in Gun Barrel City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Benton Russell, and daughters Willie Ella Russell and Mary Lee Russell Brown.
Previously of Dallas, she had resided in Gun Barrel City for the past 12 years. She was a member of the Mabank Church of Christ and was a faithful Christian.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her son, Ray Benton Russell and wife Melba, Waxahachie; daughters Laura Russell Carson and husband Dee, Sanger; and Patricia Ann Russell Morris and husband Robert, Gun Barrel City; grandchildren Tanya Russell Hines, Sheri Russell Lamb, Keri Brown, Kevin Carson, Christopher Carson, Johnathan Christensen, Allison Christensen Keathley and Meagan Schneider; 13 great-grandchildren; other family and many friends.
