About 111 runners participated in the seventh annual Pioneer Day
5K walk/run Saturday with an 8 a.m. start time in downtown
Eustace. There were 10 divisions for men and women.
Edwin Munoz, 17, completed the 3.2-mile course
in just under 17 minutes with a finish time of 16:47.5, followed
by Eustace High School student Evan Arambula, 17, finishing in
17:24.3.
Surprisingly a 26-year-old Dallas rookie firefighter Mason
McCallister came in third in 18:28.
He admitted to being a former track star at Bryan Adams High
School. He has wanted to run at Pioneer Day for some time, and
knew of the race through his Eustace High School graduate wife.
He describes himself as a semi-retired runner.
