GUN BARREL CITY–The common perception of a motorcycle rider is
probably that of a Hell’s Angel, a tough guy with a scraggly
appearance, hanging out in bars, drinking too much and starting
brawls for no reason.

But that’s not the image portrayed by Father Dan Daugherty.
Father Dan is a Roman Catholic Priest at St. Jude Catholic
Church in Gun Barrel City and one of his many passions is
motorcycles.
“I ride every chance I get,” Daugherty said. “I ride when the
sun is high and the weather is warm,” he added.
Daugherty has been riding for 10 years and owns a 2005 Harley
Davidson Heritage Soft tail Classic. He rides with friends, and
often with police officers and firefighters. He doesn’t ride in
a large, noisy gang, like the Angels but he was given the
nickname “the Rebel Priest” by his buddies.
“The best thing about motorcycles is the freedom, the wind in my
face and the bugs in my mouth,” he said.
