Narrow margins and tough conditions mark 55th annual Mabank Western Week Rodeo
By Kerry Yancey

MABANKNarrow wins and difficult conditions marked the 55th annual Mabank Western
Week Rodeo at the Andrew Gibbs Arena Friday and Saturday nights.
Competitors had to battle hot and humid weather as well as the stock supplied by
Corsicanas Hat Band Rodeo Company, and unfortunately, the stock won most of the
battles.
Those cowboys who managed to meet the whistle were rewarded with high scores.Monitor

Mabank's Danny Ward hangs on to record a 79 score, enough to win the saddle bronc
competition, during Saturday's performance at the Mabank Western Week Rodeo.
Former Kemp (now Kaufman) resident Josh Hudson won the bareback bronc event, while
Mabanks Danny Ward captured the saddle bronc title.
Athens area (Tennessee Colony) cowboy Bandy Starks and Martins Mills Cole Mewbourn
both finished with very respectable scores in the bull riding event, but lost to an 87
posted by Casey Huckabee.
As usual, the margin of victory in the timed events was extremely narrow.
For example, just 0.08 seconds separated first place from third in the calf roping
competition, while just 0.19 second separated first from fifth place in the breakaway
roping event and just 0.15 second separated first from third in the barrel racing event.
There were ties for forth place in both the girls events breakaway roping and
barrel racing.
Results are listed below.
Bareback bronc 1. Josh Hudson 75.
Saddle bronc 1. Danny Ward 79, 2. Joel Ragsdale 77.
Bull riding 1. Casey Huckabee 87, 2. Bryan Allen 70.
