Barbara Daniel
Services were held for Barbara Blanks Daniel, 85, July 8, 2010 at Sparkman Hillcrest in Dallas under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank.
Daniel was born to Harvey Lee and Edna Blanks Aug. 26, 1924, in Lakeview and died Sunday, July 4, 2010, in Winter Haven, Fla.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband L.A. “Dan” Daniel and son Lee Anderson.
She graduated from Lakeview High School, received a bachelor’s degree in education from Texas Tech and a master’s degree in education from the University of Texas in Austin.
She married Aug. 4, 1951.
They lived in Lubbock and Midland before relocating to Dallas in 1958.
She was a teacher until she retired in 1988 and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students.
She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Mabank, where she directed the bell choir, the Saints Alive choir and participated in a wide variety of activities until her health began to fail.
Her grandson, Chris, dubbed her “Gaga” and she was often heard saying “I am the original Lady Gaga.”
Her grandson, his wife and her great-grandson brought her much pleasure and enjoyment in her later years.
She loved to fish and one of her fond memories was of salmon fishing in Alaska.
Daniel is survived by daughter Karin Parker and husband Jeff, Eagle River, Ala.; grandson Christopher Renfro and wife Rachel, Auburndale, Fla.; and her great-grandson Reilly.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Scottish Rite Hospital or the Wounded Warriors Project.
