KHS sophomore Shipp invited
to play in national basketball fest
Special to The Monitor
KEMP–Incoming Kemp High School sophomore Shannon Shipp will be
participating in the upcoming International Sports Festival in Ohio.
Shipp was identified by the USA Junior Nationals basketball program as
one of the outstanding high school basketball players in the region.
As a result, Shipp, the daughter of Stephen and Kris Shipp, attended the
prestigious USA Junior Nationals All-State High School Basketball
Competition at the University of Oklahoma May 18.
The USA Junior Nationals is considered the top amateur high school
basketball competition in the United States. It is viewed as an entry
level to international competition and for high school athletes seeking
college basketball scholarship opportunities.
Teams were formed from the Oklahoma Junior National competition to
represent Texas in the International Sports Festival 2008, scheduled for
Monday through Sunday, July 21-27, in Columbus, Ohio, and Shipp was
invited to participate.
Based in Madison, Wisc., the USA Junior Nationals provides one of the
top amateur competitions in the United States and offers its program to
all athletes who have a high talent level in basketball and want to
develop their skills and techniques through statewide, national and
international competition.
This is a unique opportunity for athletes to improve their basketball
talent through highly organized competition. Information about
participating athletes is provided to educational institutions
throughout the U.S. and Canada for possible scholarship opportunities.
The USA Junior Nationals offers competitions at approximately 42 sites
in the spring with competitions scheduled throughout the South, Midwest,
East and West coasts.
Athletes who demonstrate advanced skills, team leadership, competitive
spirit, and good sportsmanship go on to the next level, the USA Junior
National International Sports Festival.
