  Virginia Vermeule
Services for Virginia Vermeule, 87, Gun Barrel City, are under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank.
Vermeule was born July 19, 1920, in Manning, Iowa, and died July 19, 2007, in Gun Barrel City. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward C. Vermeule in 1994.
Previously of Anaheim, Calif., she was a resident of Gun Barrel City for the past 37 years and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sons Jim Vermeule and wife Toni, Mabank; and Jack Vermeule and wife Nancy, Desert Shores, Calif.; daughters Joyce Beatty, Gun Barrel City; Judy Spears and husband Travis, Mabank; and Janie Murphy, Hemet, Calif.; sisters Mary Grau, Long Beach, Calif.; Pat Welch, Seal Beach, Calif.; and Kaye Henkenius, Falmouth, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

 

Corene Benton
Graveside services for Corene L. Benton, 79, Paris, were held July 25, 2007, at Aley Cemetery in Kemp.
Benton was born Dec. 8, 1927, in Cunningham to Eunice Green and George Robinson and died July 21, 2007, at the Paris Regional Medical Center.
She was a homemaker and one of 11 children.
Survivors include her children Jo Fannin, Gary Benton, Richard Benton and Denise Stone; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Lillian Rhodes and a host of family and friends.
 

 

 

James Yager
Services for James “Butch” Yager, 63, Canton, were held July 20, 2007, at the Eubank Chapel in Canton with the Rev. Mark Robinson officiating. Interment was in the Haven of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.
Yager was born Nov. 20, 1943, in Alto to Susie Emily Shelton and Calvert Earl Yager and died July 18, 2007, in Tyler after a long illness.
He was preceded in death by a grandchild Elizabeth Clements, brothers Bobby DeWayne, Billy Ray and Walter Glenn Yager, and one sister Carol LeJean Yager.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton. He loved to fish, spend time with family, horse races and bingo. He loved to watch his children and grandchildren play sports, rodeo, band and anything else they were involved in.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years Gwen Yager, Canton; daughters Leona Alexander, Springtown; and Carrie Clements and husband Tommy, Mesquite; sons Rusty Yager and wife Paulette, Mabank; and Ron Yager and wife Lisa, Canton; sister Ruby Fields, Mabank; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jeff Burge, Rick Yager, John Tillison, Larry Yager, Chris Dunlap and Casey Webster.
Honorary pallbearers were Sunshine McCord, Jimmy McLord, Sunny McCord and Bobby McCord.

Carl Etheridge
Services for Carl J. Etheridge, 96, Balch Springs, were held July 23, 2007, at the Eubank Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Norman Taylor officiating. Burial was in Laurel Land Memorial Park in Dallas under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank.
Etheridge was born Jan. 5, 1911, in Dallas and died July 20, 2007, in Balch Springs. He was preceded in death by his wife Fleddie Etheridge.
He spent 30 years as a missionary in Central America.
Survivors include his wife Margaret Etheridge, Dallas; daughters Frieda Thompson, Edinburg; and Sunbeam Carpenter, Terrell; son David Etheridge, Rockwall; stepchildren Cathy Paul, Seagoville; Joy Bloyd, Oak Park, Ill.; David Cox, Atibala, Brazil; and Carl Cox, Falls Church, Va.; brothers Willard Etheridge, Dallas; and Grady Etheridge, Cape Girardeau, Mo.; sister Jeanette Harris, Coarse Gold, Calif.; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Carl D. Etheridge, Lowell Morren, Timothy Morren, James Dunn, Daniel Dunn and Andrew Morren.

Wallace Leonard
Services for Wallace Reid Leonard, 80, Kemp, were held July 24, 2007, at Tomlinson Funeral Chapel in Seven Points with Bro. Rocky Weatherford officiating. Interment was in Tool Cemetery under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home in Seven Points.
Leonard was born Oct. 4, 1926, in Dallas to the late Goldie and Theron Basil Leonard and died July 22, 2007, in Kemp. He was preceded in death by his wife Janice Pauline Leonard.
He was a craftsman by trade.
Survivors include his daughters Sabrina Zambardino and Shannon Leonard; sons Dan Leonard and Daniel Leonard; stepdaughter Peggy Rogers; special daughter Dori Fortney; grandsons Dan Nathan Leonard Jr., Joseph Reid Zambardino, Theron Basil Leonard and Quin Thomas Leonard; granddaughters Tiffanii Paige Wilson and Bella Valentine Leonard.

Delbert Cantrell
Services for Delbert Cantrell, 61, Athens, were held July 24, 2007, in the Gordon-Foster-Brown Chapel in Athens with Brother Arnold Walker officiating. Interment was in Leagueville Cemetery in Leagueville.
Cantrell was born March 31, 1946, in Athens and died July 21, 2007, in Athens. He was preceded in death by father Roy Cantrell, sister Donnie and her husband Jack Pendergrath, niece Jessica Almaguer, brother-in-law Billy, nephew Sam Scott and grandparents on both sides.
He was a lifelong resident of Athens and was a lineman. He was a member of the Calvary Temple Assembly of God Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially camping and fishing. He loved playing dominoes.
Survivors include his wife Cecil Ann Cantrell, Mineola; mother Ima Rebecca Cantrell, Athens; brother Jimmy and wife Faye Cantrell, Ponta; sister Brenda Scott and nephew Michael, Athens; sons Dewayne and wife Tammy Cantrell, Kemp; Tommy Houch and wife Heather, Wills Point; and Donald Houch and wife Ingrid, Quitman; and daughter Stephanie Cantrell, Emory.
Pallbearers were Michael Mason, Matt Crowell, Mark Crowell, Tommy Houch and L.B. Tidwell.

Annie Templin
Services for Annie Lanell Templin, 78, Seven Points, were held July 21, 2007, at Lakeview Assembly of God Church with Bro. Don Bell officiating under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home in Seven Points. Interment followed in Ware Cemetery, Kemp.
Templin was born Nov. 26, 1928, in Aley, the daughter of the late Margie and Bill Wood and died July 18, 2007, in Athens. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Templin, parents, sister Jimmy Ruth Flanagan and niece Suszanne Dyer Milliron.
Survivors include her son Douglas and wife Betty Templin, Athens; daughters Debbie and husband Larry Boles, Kerens; and Melissa Hall, Seven Points; sister Billie and W.T. Dyer, Seven Points; grandchildren Sara White, Jennifer Kinabrew, Amanda Templin, Joshua Boles, Jeb Bearden, Shane Boles, Coy Boles, Larry Boles, Justin, Jessie and Brandon Shaw; 17 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
