Monitor Staff Reports
KEMP–The annual Greater Cedar Creek Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Red
Hot “18” golf tournament drew 21 teams to the Cedar Creek Country Club
Monday.
The team of Fred Kurlander, Ty Walter, Boyse Wood and Mike McCord took
first place gross, while the Eustace team of Gary Walsh, Chris Powers,
Mac McKinney and Ray Armstrong secured the first place net trophy.
“It was a really good tournament and a really good day,” chamber
president JoAnn Hanstrom remarked. Hanstrom is researching to see if
this year’s turnout represents the largest number of teams to play in
the four-man scramble event.
Hanstrom added the chamber golf committee appreciates everyone who
supported and played in the tournament, helping make it a success.
Chairs for the tournament were Rick Brown, Judy Pierce, Tim Lilly and
Robbye Grissom.
In second place gross was the team of Tim Hogan, David Berry, Jack
Scroggins and Vernon Rainwater, while Lana L. Mock, Pat Collin, Suzanne
Mays and Fred Gammons took the second place net trophy.
The third place gross trophy went to the team of Douglas Humble, Bob
Walker, Steve Winfield and Lou Thomas, while the Kemp ISD team of Kurt
Schumacher, Peter Running, Keith Foisey and Sam Swierc took third place
net.
The team of Kirk Chaney, Trey Chaney, John Bateman and Todd Simmons won
Budweiser koozies for finishing fifth in gross scores, while the
last-place prize went to the team of Doug Ragsdale, Gene Myers, Tate
Cramm and Calvin Jones.
John Comeau won “closest to the pin” on No. 17, while Brenda Higgins and
Steve Winfield hit the women’s and men’s “longest drive” on No. 18.
Red’s By The Lake Oyster Bar sponsored a $10,000 hole-in-one opportunity
for all trophy winners from 175 yards out on No. 18. However, only a few
