Roy Alton Hickson, 84, was born April 22, 1924, in Quinlan and died July 23, 2008, in Mesquite in the presence of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Oma and Norris Hickson of Quinlan, brothers Homer Hickson of Mesquite and Carl Hickson of Terrell.
He was a master carpenter for 45 years and loved the outdoors. He played pool, designed woodcraft items for his family and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife Betty Hickson; children Billy Hickson and wife Janice, Seven Points; Belinda DeWitt, Mabank; Alton Hickson, Rosharon; Gene Hickson and wife Dawn, Midlothian; Gale Crawford, Balch Springs; Rowena Hollaway, Tool; Johnny Hickson and wife Vickie, Gun Barrel City; and Candy White, Fort Worth; also surviving is the mother of his eight children Billie Massey; stepchildren Sandy Balthrop, Hickory Creek; and Donna Stretch, Mesquite; brother Loyd Hickson and wife Joann, Wills Point; 23 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Phyllis Thompson Powell, 62, Mabank, were held Aug. 1, 2008, at the Eubank Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Bobby Sapp and Mike Cooper officiating. Burial was in Elm Grove Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank.
Powell was born April 15, 1946, in Terrell and died July 29, 2008, in Athens.
She had resided in Mabank for the past 32 years and was a member of the Prairieville Baptist Church. She was a secretary with the Kemp ISD.
Survivors include her daughters Dreama Cooper and husband Mike, Mabank; Rhonda Jones and James Powell, Tool; Robin Button and husband Lonnie, Whitney; and Summer Krywucki and husband Michael, Dallas; brothers Allen and Brent Thompson, both of Dallas; father Willard Thompson, Dallas; grandchildren Michael Cooper Jr., Amanda Cooper, Caitlyn Jones, Brittney Powell, Colten Powell, Heather Holloway, Brook, Kendall and Mason Button; and great-grandchild Hayden Holloway.
