Wrights, Meyers win K of C golf tournament

KEMP–Nearly 70 players participated in the fifth fund-raising golf tournament sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council No. 12253 Friday.
A total of 17 teams – 68 players – turned out for the four-man scramble tournament at the Kings Creek Golf Course south of Kemp.
The team of Andy Wright, Matt Wright, Charlie Meyer and Chris Meyer took first-place honors and a cash prize with a tournament score of 55.
A stroke behind at 56 was the foursome of Steve Gillert, Michael Esparza, Dusty Godwin and Kenny Craig.
No golfer managed to secure a Chevrolet 1500 crew cab pickup, offered by Teague Chevrolet of Mabank as a hole-in-one prize.
Golfers braved triple-digit temperatures during the tournament, which raised funds for the Knights’ scholarship program.
The Knights, based at Mary, Queen of Heaven Catholic church in Malakoff, hold other fund-raisers throughout the year for the scholarship program, which provides $500 scholarships to high school seniors from all five Cedar Creek Lake area school districts.
