MHS girls
split opener
Monitor Staff Reports
MABANK–Mabank’s Lady Panthers split a dual match with Wills Point and
Ennis in their season and home volleyball opener Tuesday.
The Lady Panthers knocked off Wills Point 3-1, while Ennis defeated
Wills Point and then handed Mabank a 3-0 defeat.
“We
played well for the first match of the season,” veteran Mabank head
coach Stacy Shelton reported.
After losing 12 of 14 players from a team that posted back-to-back
undefeated district marks and trips to the regional quarterfinals,
Shelton figured to be seeing some inexperience problems early.

visiting Ennis Tuesday.
In the opener against Wills Point, the Lady Panthers took the first
two games, 25-17 and 25-14 before falling 25-14 in the third game.
They notched a 25-20 win in the fourth game to take the match.
Against Ennis, the Lady Panthers kept it close most of the way, losing
25-23, 25-23 and 25-17.
“We mixed up the lineup to find the right combination,” Shelton said.
“Our offense struggled, along with serve receive.
“Defense was pretty good, but there is always room for improvement,” she
added. “We only have two returning players, who were subs last year, so
we’re really a young team as far as experience goes.”
The Lady Panthers were scheduled to play in the annual Garland
tournament this weekend, and will return home to host the Royse City
Lady Bulldogs Monday, Aug. 18, opening with a 4:30 p.m. freshman
contest.
Tuesday, Aug. 19, Mabank’s girls will travel to Crandall for a 5:30 p.m.
dual match against the hosting Lady Pirates and the Rains Lady Wildcats,
and will return to Crandall for a tournament next weekend, Aug. 21 and
23.
