EUSTACE–The Eustace Lady Bulldogs split a pair of non-district matches
against Ennis and Athens Tuesday.
Now 5-2 on the season, Eustace’s girls were scheduled to host their own
volleyball tournament this weekend, opening Thursday.
Tuesday, Aug. 26, the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Ennis for a rematch
against the Lady Lions and a match against Terrell’s Lady Tigers,
opening with a 4:30 p.m. freshman contest.
Next weekend, Aug. 28-30, the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Tyler for the
Robert E. Lee Invitational tournament before taking a break.
Eustace will resume non-district play Friday, Sept. 5, against Westwood,
with a site to be announced.
Against the Ennis girls, the Lady Bulldogs bounced back from an
opening-game 25-23 loss with a 25-18 win in the second game, but then
dropped two straight, 25-17 and 25-21, for their second loss of the
season.
Cassie Freeman (10 kills) and Jenny McConathy (seven kills) led the Lady
Bulldog offense, but Eustace recorded only four blocks, with Arin Rhodes
getting two of them before injuring an ankle.
Freeman added 16 digs and a block, while Rhodes had two kills and a dig
before her injury.
Chelsea Truitt had a strong all-around match, notching 14 digs, two
kills, two assists and serving up two aces, while Jessica McConathy
added nine digs, one kill, one assist and one ace.
Krista Lowry had 10 digs and Veronica Maltos had two, while Nicole
McNeel (11) and Kimberly Austin (10) combined for 21 assists. Austin
also had an ace.
Allison Case also chipped in three kills and two digs, while Camille
Rogers had two kills and one block.
The Lady Bulldogs bounced back to record a 3-1 win over Athens, 25-7,
22-25, 25-15 and 25-21.
Freeman again led the Lady Bulldog offense with 13 kills, six digs and
an assist, while Jenny McConathy had 12 kills, four digs and one block.
Truitt had another fine game with one kill, nine digs, one assist and
one ace (the only EHS ace of the match), while Camille Rogers had a
breakout performance with four kills, two digs, three blocks and an
assist.
Jessica McConathy had two kills, 10 digs and one assist, while Cass
added one kill, seven digs and an assist.
Austin (14) and McNeel (nine) combined for 23 assists, while McNeel
added a dig, and both Lowry (five) and Maltos (two) contributed digs.
In sub-varsity action, the Eustace freshmen and junior varsity both
scored 2-1 wins over Ennis, while they split matches with Athens.
Against Ennis, the Lady Bulldog freshmen took the match 25-7, 22-25 and
15-7, while the JV won 24-26, 25-13 and 25-22.
In the Athens contests, the EHS frosh fell in a very tight match, 25-14,
24-26 and 13-15, while the Lady Bulldog JV rolled to a 25-21 and 25-15
victory.
