Free health seminar scheduled at hospital

KAUFMAN–Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman will
be presenting “The Heart of a Woman,” Sept. 22 in the
hospital’s community room.
Dr. James Park, a cardiologist on the medical staff, will
discuss female heart disease emphasizing ways women can
manage their risk factors for heart and vascular disease, as
well as ways to live a heart-healthy life.
The presentation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. and
includes a free lunch.

TYLER–The 96th East Texas State Fair starts its 11-day run
Thursday, Sept. 22.
The fair is located at the East Texas State Fairgrounds,
2112 W. Front St., in Tyler.
Keeping in the tradition of local fairs, the East Texas
State Fair is filled with competitions in areas of creative
arts, agricultural mechanics, hay shows, livestock, pasture
and wildlife plant identification and photography.
Advance ticket sales are available at Tyler area
Brookshire’s and Super 1 Foods stores.
Ticket prices are $8 for ages 12 and older, $5 for children
6-12 and children ages 5 and younger are free.
The fair gates will be open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Mondays
through Sundays, except for the last day, Sunday Oct. 2,
when gates will close at 9 p.m.
Unlimited daily carnival rides are available to those
purchasing arm bands for $25.
All rides will be just $2 each on Sunday, Sept. 25.
Featured attractions include the Eudora Farms Petting Zoo.
The 42nd annual senior day will be Thursday, Sept. 22 with
special entertainment at the Harvey Convention Center, bingo
in the Mayfair building and dominoes in the Activities
building. At 7 p.m., Otis and The Metroband will entertain
on the main stage.
Concerts on the Samsung stage will perform at 7:30 p.m. on
weeknights and 8 p.m. on Saturdays. Concerts include:
• Friday, Sept. 23, The Matthew Davidson Band
• Saturday, Sept. 24, JB and the Moonshine Band
• Sunday, Sept. 25, La Invasora, 10th Anniversary all day
music festival.
• Monday, Sept. 26, The Sounds of Smith County
• Tuesday, Sept. 27, The Day Forth
• Wednesday, Sept. 28, Truffula Tree
• Thursday, Sept. 29, Something Blue
• Friday, Sept. 30, Brad Dunn and Ellis County, and

GUN BARREL CITY–Benefits Counselor for the Area Agency on
Aging Sharon O’Maley and the Gun Barrel City Senior Game Day
staff will be hosting a Health Fair at Brawner Hall in Gun
Barrel City from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20.
There will be representatives from the Deaf Action Center,
Home Health agencies, ETMC, Hospice Care, Cedarview House
and Home Medical agencies.
Important information will be given regarding Medicare Part
C open enrollment and on-site assistance will be provided to
help with enrollment.
Flu shots will be administered. The fee is $25 and payments
can be billed to Medicare or paid by cash and/or check.
Information regarding hearing devices will be offered. In
addition, there will be different types of hearing devices
available on site for participants to test.
Please take advantage of this opportunity to become more
informed about services available to seniors and get the flu
shot early!
