Mabank senior setter Kelsi Reynolds (12) sets
up teammates Miranda Groom (8) and Macey Thomas, while Haley
Brackenridge (11) moves into defensive position during an Aug. 28 match
against Greenville.
Tuesday, Sept. 25, the Lady Panthers will host the Kaufman Lady Lions in
another key first-round contest, and then will host the Ferris Lady
Yellowjackets Friday, Sept. 28.
Next Tuesday, Oct. 2, Mabank will visit Eustace. All evenings open with
4:30 p.m. sub-varsity matches.
At Tyler Tuesday, the Lee Lady Raiders opened with a 25-21 win in the
first game, but the Lady Panthers came back to win the second game
25-14.
Lee took the third game 25-22, but Mabank forced a deciding fifth game
with a 25-22 win.
In the fifth game, Lee secured the match with a 15-10 victory.
“This was a very good match with two pretty evenly matched teams. Their
passes were a little better than ours,” Mabank head coach Stacy Shelton
reported.
“We played without our other left-side hitter (Hali Schultz, out with
illness), so we had to make adjustments by moving (Bridgette) Tanner to
the left-side hitter and (Ashley) Corter to the right side,” Shelton
said. “The team adjusted and played very hard.”
Tanner and Miranda Groom led the Mabank offense, with Groom notching 31
kills, four blocks, 12 digs and one serving ace, while Tanner had 21
kills, one block and 13 digs.
Setter Kelsi Reynolds had 52 assists and seven digs in the match, while
Corter had three kills, two blocks and one dig.
On defense, Macey Thomas had five blocks, two kills and two digs, while
Haley Brackenridge had eight blocks, one kill and one dig.
Katie Cross had 10 digs and one save, while Kelsie Busby added four
digs.
