Error-prone Lady Panthers fall
to Mesquite Poteet, 3-0
Monitor Staff Reports
MABANK–Numerous
missed shots, poor service receive and unforced errors helped the
Mesquite Poteet Lady Pirates sweep the hosting Mabank Lady Panthers 3-0
Tuesday.
Now 16-16 on the year and 2-2 in District 15-4A play, the Lady Panthers
were scheduled for a bye Friday night.Monitor

Mabank Lady Panther senior Taylor Chapa (2)
returns a Mesquite Poteet serve as teammate Sadie Roberts (3) moves into
position during Mabank's 3-0 District 15-4A volleyball loss to the
visiting Lady Pirates Tuesday.
Tuesday, Sept. 29, Mabank’s girls resume district play on the road
against the Forney Lady Jackrabbits, and they will stay on the road
Friday, Oct. 2, when they visit Terrell for the final first-round match.
Both evenings open with 5:30 p.m. sub-varsity matches.
Facing a much taller, more athletic opponent, the Lady Panthers needed
to play well, but from the start, they appeared unfocused, and that was
reflected in the game scores, as the Lady Pirates won 25-8, 25-10 and
25-12.
“It was a very difficult match for us,” veteran Mabank coach Stacy
Shelton said later. “Poteet took advantage of everything we gave them.
“Right now, we’ve got to put that match past us and work on getting
ready for Forney and Terrell,” Shelton added. “Those are really big
matches for us next week.”
Alison Castle led the Lady Panther offense with nine kills, adding one
block and one dig, while Lauren Norwood had five kills and five digs.
Jena Penney had the only other Mabank kill, and Meagan Royal posted the
only other block.
Freshman setter Kourtney Holyfield had 13 assists and three digs, while
Whitney Evans had one assist and two digs.
Defensively, Taylor Chapa had four digs, Sadie Roberts one dig and
Shaylee Williams five digs.
