PINNACLE CLUB–A sunset sky reflected in the waters of Cedar Creek Lake as seen from the Pinnacle Club, was the perfect backdrop for Denim & Diamonds IV.
The annual fundraising gala benefiting The Library at Cedar Creek Lake attracted 155 attendees, who mingled by the pool under large tents Sept. 24.
Guests were generous as usual in raising more than $50,000 from 18 live auction items, alone and an undisclosed amount from ticket sales, sponsorships, 112 silent auction items and several games.

Artist Mark Weiss waits for the right moment to present Gloria Campos with his metal horse sculpture as a thank you gift for hosting the evening's festivities.

Event co-chairman Steve Webster reported that 155 tickets were sold at $130 each. Many purchasers were eager to spend an evening with mistress of ceremonies Gloria Campos, a WFAA Channel 8 nightly news caster and Cedar Creek Lake weekender.
“It went well – a success! It seemed like everyone had fun and I had fun,” said library director Sondra Price at the conclusion of the fundraiser.
The event started with drinks and appetizers while attendees studied more than a hundred silent auction items and made their bids at 7 p.m. when a buffet dinner service began.
Fundraising also included games involving a money jar, heads and tails toss and football squares.
Caricature artist Michael Gillespie entertained by sketching heads of those attending.
Music selected by Dino “Danger” Perelli set the upbeat ambiance, including a variety of popular easy-listening tunes and dance songs.
The al fresco menu included tossed salad, garlic bread, steamed green beans and carrots, sliced potatoes, beef steaks or brisket and cake for dessert, along with a variety of wines and beers.
“This event is very special to me because my grandmother was illiterate,” Campos told the gathering. “So anything that raises money for a library is a good thing,” Campos added.
Derrek Holland presented Campos with a metal horse sculpture by artist Mark Weiss in appreciation for Campos hosting the event.
Auctioneer Les Miles led the live auction which raised over $50,000 for the library.
Among the 18 auction items were trips to London, Washington, D.C., Hawaii, Sonoma Valley, Calif., Disney World, Texas Motor Speedway and Beaver Creek.
Also, a portrait session, outdoor furniture set from Solar Screen & Sun Control Products, limousine ride, wine tastings and dinners, a signed football, 2007 Cadillac Escalade, local villa stay and a keg and food party for 40 at Cedar Isle Restaurant were purchased by the highest bidder.
The library is overseen by a board of directors, including president Dale Molander, vice president Lew Talbot, treasurer Gilbert W. Betts, secretary Ed Creel, Al Conant, Nan Creel, John Dees, Jr., Derek Holland, Carol Lynn, Fran Sonka, Larry Spiegel, Jim Taylor and Steve Webster.
Denim & Diamonds IV committee chairs included Steve Webster, advertising Christy and Larry Spiegel, games Lew Talbot, decorations Carol Lynn, auction donations Nan and Ed Creel, registration and checkout Sue Brown and Gil Betts.
Sponsors included Jim Taylor, public relations Elian Haan, character artist Barbara Webster, security Gun Barrel City police, auctioneer Les Miles, photography Jamye Perelli and set-up Derek Holland.
Sponsors at the six-carat level were Sun Commercial Roofs; five-carat level Johnette and Gilbert Betts, PrimaData Inc. and Triple N Ranch; four-carat level Nan and Ed Creel and Christy and Larry Spiegel.
Also, three-carat level sponsors are Charli & Company and Gun Barrel City Economic Development Corporation.
At the two carat level were AAA Storage, Sue Brown, John Dees, Jr., First State Bank of Athens, Derek and Misty Holland, Dr. Mark and Kathy Hughes, McDonald’s of Gun Barrel City, Henderson County Judge Richard Sanders and wife Kathy, Stoneleaf Development, L.L.C.

“Each year, The Library at Cedar Creek Lake seeks operating funds from a variety of sources in order to meet its often overwhelming expense requirements. Denim & Diamonds has become the library’s primary annual fundraising event. Thank you for participating,” director Sondra Price said.
“We happily support the library by being members of the ‘Best Friends of the Library;’ by making a monthly, automatic donation through the ‘Support the Library Campaign;’ by making periodic donations to the ‘Endowment Fund,’ and by volunteering to help with library events. Why not join the fun?” library board treasurer Gil Betts said.
Library staff members include director Price, librarian Jean Dirks, youth services librarian Melissa Newland and reference librarian Nina Tarver.
The Library at Cedar Creek Lake is located at 400 N. Cedar Creek Parkway in Seven Points and can be reached by calling (903) 432-4185.
