Exec committee backs
schools’ discipline actions

FORNEY–The District 15-4A executive committee agreed to issue a private
reprimand to both school districts in connection with a bench-clearing
brawl that halted the Oct. 3 district football game between the hosting
Mabank Panthers and the visiting Terrell Tigers.
Meeting in Forney Friday, district superintendents agreed “both schools
had conducted a thorough and proper investigation of the events,”
District Executive Committee chairman Eli Melton wrote in a letter
released by Mabank ISD Superintendent Dr. Russell Marshall.
“The committee voted unanimously, with Terrell and Mabank abstaining, to
accept both schools’ recommendations regarding disciplinary action,”
Melton wrote.
“This action includes a one-game suspension of seven Terrell athletes,
two Mabank athletes and a private reprimand for both schools,” Melton
wrote.
The two Mabank players, both starters, were suspended for Friday night’s
game at Red Oak. Since Terrell was idle Friday, those players will be
suspended for the Tigers’ next game, a home district contest against Red
Oak Friday, Oct. 17.
Marshall said the executive committee has five levels of disciplinary
action it could take against both schools. A private reprimand is the
lowest action, with a public reprimand representing the next level.

capture St. James tournament
Monitor Staff Reports
KEMP–Although rain showers threatened, 100 golfers played in the ninth
annual Adopt-A-Family golf tournament Monday at the Cedar Creek Country
Club.
Proceeds from the tournament, sponsored by St. James on the Lake
Episcopal Church, will go toward meeting the needs of less fortunate
families during the upcoming holiday season, and during back-to-school
times.
Church pastor Father Jerry Morriss said a number of players called early
Monday to see if the tournament was still on, and despite heavy rains
that morning, showers didn’t disrupt play in the afternoon.
In its nine-year history, the tournament has never been delayed or
cancelled by rain, Morriss said, although some folks got a little wet
when a shower came through while they were waiting in line at St. James
for a plate of Danny’s Barbecue.
A number of churches were represented in the tournament for the first
time, Morriss said.
“Last year, we adopted 40 families, and we’re hoping to expand that this
year,” he said.
First place in the four-man scramble tournament went to the team of
First United Methodist Church of Mabank Pastor Chris Schoolcraft,
Melinda Van Horn, Jeff Van Horn and Sandy Hale, who posted a net score
of 45.4.
Second place went to the team of John McMillen, Bobby Knott, Gary
Gallatin and Johnny Knott, who carded a net score of 45.6.
Third place, along with the traveling Preacher’s Trophy, went to the
team of Tom Graves, Dr. John Loar, Bishop Paul Lambert and Morris, who
posted a net score of 46.2.
Jeff Van Horn (men) and Allison Mitchell (women) received prizes for the
Longest Drive, while Joe Cooper and Karen Spencer were recognized as
hitting the shot Closest to the Pin.
