VFW offers patriotic essay
contest

SEVEN POINTS–The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4376 and
Ladies Auxiliary are looking for area students to enter its
awards program.
They are hosting a contest in which Mabank, Kemp, Malakoff, Tool
and Scurry students in grades 9 through 12 are invited to
participate.
The 2012 patriotic essay contest theme, “Is There Pride in
Serving in Our Military,” offers an opportunity for students to
earn college funds.
Students must submit a typed copy of their essay and a 3 to 5
minute CD or cassette tape to VFW Post 4376 by Tuesday, Nov. 1.

A second contest is offered to students in grades 6 through 8.
Students must complete a typed 300 to 400 word essay using the
theme, “Are You Proud of Your Country?”

‘Young Frankenstein’ set for
Oct. 28 - 29

GUN BARREL CITY–Friends Players is presenting “Young
Frankenstein, the Musical,” a dinner show starting at 8 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 28 and at 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Friends
Nightclub in Gun Barrel City.

“Friends Players” is a group of entertainers, at the Friends
Club in Gun Barrel City that help to raise funds throughout the
year for organizations that give community support to Henderson
County.
Last year, the “Friends,” contributed more than $65,000 through
the events and shows done for a wide variety of organizations.
The groups include: the SPCA, Cedar Creek Library, Stray Dog
org. AIN of Dallas, Dallas Food Pantry and Dallas Aids Services.
Also, to local American Legion posts, Thanksgiving and Christmas
food drives, Fisher House DVD drive, Toys for Tots, Cedar Creek
Food Pantry and many more.
The groups selects organizations and provides information to
them so an agreement can be made to elect recipients.

Pet adoption day set at T BAR

KAUFMAN - Dogs, cats, kittens and puppies from the Humane
Society of Cedar Creek Lake (HSCCL) will be brought to T BAR T
from 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22.
These pets need adoptive families who are looking for their
“next best friend.”
Volunteers from the shelter will tend to the animals and help
with the adoption process. Adoption fee includes spay and
neutering, vaccines, deworming, microchiping, and collar and ID
tag. A rabies vaccine is included for pets over 4 months old.
T Bar T is located on highway 175 east in Kaufman.
New volunteers are needed to care for the many animals at the
shelter. These pets are brought to the shelter through owner
surrender, animal control and area law enforcement officials.
A volunteer orientation class is offered by HSCCL to train
individuals about the shelter and care of the animals.
