KHS girls named all-district
Monitor Staff Reports
CEDAR CREEK LAKEFour Mabank players and one Kemp player were named superlative or
first-team selections by the District 13-3A volleyball coaches recently.
The three playoff teams loop winner Crandall, runner-up Kaufman and third-place
Mabank dominated the all-district selections.
District coaches named 10 superlative players, including two servers and two newcomers of
the year, along with a seven-player first team, an eight-player second team and 20
honorable mention players.
Mabank had two players named to superlatives, as sophomore Kourtney Holyfield was named
the Setter of the Year and senior Torrie Garrett was named the Blocker of the Year.
Kemp junior Kandace Rose picked up her second Newcomer of the Year nod (she was the
basketball Newcomer as a freshman) in conjunction with Kaufman sophomore Schylar Lands.
Crandall senior Lauren Shirley was named the district MVP, while junior teammate Heather
Jones was named the Defensive Player of the Year.
Kaufman senior Dani Blake was the Offensive Player of the Year, and North Forney junior
McKenna Hisel was picked as the Libero of the Year.
Coaches named Crandall senior Amber Huddleston and Ferris senior Alejandro Velasco as
co-Servers of the Year.
Mabank senior defensive specialist Sadie Roberts and freshman outside hitter Makenna Allen
were named to the all-district first team.
They were joined by Kaufman seniors Allison Strempke and Meagan Rough, Ferris junior Vicki
Mcguire and North Forney sophomore Brittny Norris.
Kemp senior middle blocker Shannon Shipp led off the second team, which also included
Mabank senior Jena Penney.
Other second-team members were Crandall seniors Mallori Weaver and Mallorie Newton, Ferris
sophomore Priscilla Alanis, Kaufmans Morgan Robertson and Lacey Wilkie, and North
Forney freshman Peyton Hedrick.
Honorable mention went to:
Mabanks Meagan Royal, Mikayla Adams and Natalie Torres;
Kemps Heather Henderson, Brianna Powell, Nicole Autrey and Chancie Sivley.
Mabank had eight players named academic all-district Penney, Torres, Holyfield,
Adams, Allen, Brittany Findley, Molly Groom and Morgan Gaona while Penney and
Torres were named academic all-state.
EHS boys going to state

ARLINGTONEustace High Schools boys cross country team took second place at the
annual Region II championship meet, qualifying them for the state cross country meet.
The EHS varsity girls team faced some very challenging teams, but finished 15th out of 22
teams and 167 individuals, while the boys also competed against 22 teams and 165
individual runners.
The boys team was scheduled to compete in the state meet at Old Settlers Park in Round
Rock Saturday.
Sophomore Shelby Milton led the EHS girls, placing 42nd in personal record time of 13:25.
Milton was followed by Tarrah Herrera (62nd in 13:45), Nancy Murff (79th in 13:55), Kara
Zimmerer (108th in 14:29), Crystal Garza (118th in 14:41), Skylar Burks (138th in 15:11)
and Shelby Stegent (155th in 16:22).
Sophomore Evan Arambula led the Bulldog boys, finishing 12th overall with a time of 16:35.
Arambula was followed by teammates Michael Yates and Caleb Caldwell, who placed 15th and
17th in 17:00 and 17:02, respectively.
Also, Ben Huddleston placed 30th in 17:32, followed by Gavin Kirkhart (39th in 17:50),
Trey Russell (49th in 18:12) and Shawn Boulware (104th in 19:32).
