Mabank girls nip Terrell

MABANK–Mabank’s Lady Panthers outscored the visiting Terrell Lady Tigers
15-11 in the fourth quarter to take a narrow 45-38 victory Monday.
The Lady Panthers defeated Van on the road Tuesday night (see related
story).
A second-quarter surge enabled the Lady Panthers to take a 20-17
halftime lead, and both teams scored 10 points each in the third
quarter.
Ashley Corter scored 11 points to lead the Lady Panthers, as Emily
Tucker scored nine and Kelsi Reynolds eight.
Blaire Hyde added seven points, while Shadia Rueb had five, Katie Cross
three and Miranda Groom two points.
KaKa White led Terrell with 13 points.
Mabank won the junior varsity game 42-23.

Weckherlin tops championship
flight at MGA Turkey Shoot

KEMP–Bob Weckherlin’s net round of 66 topped the championship flight at
the annual MGA Turkey Shoot golf tournament at the Cedar Creek Country
Club Nov. 18.
The tournament drew 36 golfers in four flights, with flights determined
by handicaps.
Garrett Godwin took second in the championship flight with an adjusted
round of 68, followed by Dan Merrill, who shot a net round of 69.
Net scores for other finishers in the championship flight included Gary
Day (71), Andrew Jordan (75), Rod Hunt (73), David Cary (80), Mike Roach
(78), Stu Fowler (79) and Wes Verner (81).
Lewis Armstrong’s net round of 71 led the first flight, followed by
David Winn’s adjusted round of 72, and Tom Green’s net score of 73.
Also playing in the first flight were Dan Bradfield (75), David Melton
(77), Trevor Thorne (76), Skip Godwin (76), Terry Butler (80) and John
Andrews (78).
“Sonny” Roach topped the second flight with a net round of 69, followed
by Mike Clement’s round of 70 and Derek Drab’s round of 71.
Also playing in the second flight were Wilbur Dennis (77), Bruce Irwin
(81), Tom Gartrell (82), Bill Collins (82) and James McKinney. Billy
Tyler was also listed.
Ray Brown’s net score of 73 led the third flight, followed by David
Ziegler’s 75 and Dewayne Taylor’s 76.
Also playing in the third flight were Clarence Hill (81), C.V. Dellinger
(77), Bill Cleverha (78), Mike Oxford (83) and Robbie Robertson (79).
In the Closest to the Pin awards, Jordan won on the championship flight
with his shot on No. 14, while Butler took the first flight award with
his shot on No. 5.
McKinney’s shot on No. 8 won the pin award on the second flight, while
Ziegler’s shot at No. 17 won the third flight award.
Big catfish caught on small line

Lonnie Dillard holds a blue catfish he caught recently in Cedar Creek
Lake. Dillard caught the fish, which weighed about 38 pounds and was 40
inches long, on one of his smaller “trout” fishing poles, using
eight-pound test line. The Dillards recently relocated to the Cedar
Creek Lake area from Colorado.
