Services for Ed Pearson, 96, Gun Barrel City, were held Dec. 4, 2010, at the First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City with the Rev. Byron Jones officiating. Interment followed in Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home in Mabank.
Pearson was born Jan. 6, 1914, in Houston, Miss., to Lulu Era Thompson and Walter Ed Pearson and died Nov. 30, 2010, in Athens.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Eunice Parson, Bobbie Lumpkin, Louise Anderson and Pat Grissom; and brothers Travis and Wayne Pearson.
He graduated from Pursley High School and worked for the City of Washington, D.C., Transportation Department.
He enjoyed singing and sang in the Hallelujah Choir and Chancel Choir in church and sang with Jake and the Boys gospel quartet.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gun Barrel City and the Cedar Creek Masonic Lodge No. 1431 AF&AM.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Pearson, Gun Barrel City; daughter Mary Burns and husband Bruce, Vienna, Va.; grandsons Adam and Ben Burns, both of Vienna, Va.; sister-in-law Cathie Pearson, Athens; brothers-in-law Perry Cloyd and wife Marie, Gun Barrel City; and Bud Cloyd and wife Dorothy, Belleville, Neb.
Memorials may be made to the Music Ministry or Giving to Grow at the First Baptist Church in Gun Barrel City.
