EUSTACE–The Eustace Lady Bulldogs hosted the Buffalo Lady Bison
Tuesday to open their District 14-2A schedule early.
The visiting Lady Bison had the upper hand offensively from the
start, and went on to defeat Eustace, 63-40.
In the first period, Buffalo jumped ahead quickly, and had a
19-10 lead after the first period.
The Lady Bison defense all but shut down the Lady ’Dogs in the
second period, allowing just two points, while the Buffalo
offense racked up another 19 points.
The Eustace offense came to life in a big way in the second half
of the game, scoring 15 points in the third period and 13 in the
fourth.
Buffalo stayed with the Eustace offense in the third, scoring 15
points for themselves, while being outscored in the fourth
period by three points.
“We came out slow which hurt us going into half,” Eustace head
coach DaLinda Cassell explained. “We did much better in the
second half of play.”
Catania Grant led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 14 points
for the game. Kacie Richards followed with 12 points and Megan
Renteria added four.
“Our main goal, at this point, is to play all four quarters and
to have 10 points or more each quarter,” Cassell said.
“Defensively we must come out ready not to give up more than 10
points to our opponent.”
Last weekend, the Lady Bulldogs competed in the Fruitvale
basketball tournament.
In game one, the Eustace girls lost to the Scurry-Rosser Lady
Wildcats, 56-40, even with Richards’ 30 points for the game.
The game began well for both teams, with Scurry scoring 18
points and the Lady Bulldogs hanging in with 13 points in the
first period.
The Lady Bulldogs fell behind badly in the second period,
scoring just three points, while Scurry added 13 points.
Scurry added another 13 points in the third period, while
Eustace scored 16 points to close the gap slightly.
Eustace outscored Scurry again in the fourth period, rattling
off 14 points and holding Scurry to 13.
In game two, the Lady Bulldogs fell 10 points short of Cumby
Lady Trojans, 52-42.
Eustace had a strong first half against Cumby, outscoring the
Lady Trojans 17-14 in the first period, and 11-6 in the second.
Cumby, however, had a fire lit during halftime and roared out
strong, outscoring Eustace 15-8 in the third period and 16-6 in
the fourth period.
Richards again led the Lady ’Dogs’ offense with 14 points. Katy
Brigham scored 12 points in the matchup, and Casey Bramblitt
added seven.
The Lady Bulldogs won game three, defeating the Trinity Lady
Tigers with a commanding, 52-24, score.
The Lady Bulldogs started strong in the first period, scoring 15
points, while holding Trinity to five.
The Trinity offense perked up in the second period, scoring 14
points while Eustace scored 11.
The Lady Bulldog defense clamped down in the second half of the
game, allowing Trinity just five points total in the half.
Meanwhile, the Eustace offense scored 14 in the third period and
12 in the fourth to seal the win.
Richards had another big game, scoring 22 points for the Lady
Bulldogs. Renteria scored 12 points for Eustace, and Chelsea
Oldham added six.
The Eustace girls traveled to Leon Friday night, and are
scheduled to host the Malakoff Lady Tigers at 3 p.m. Monday.
