Belva
O. Reid
Services for Belva O. Reid, 88, Kemp, were held Dec. 18, 2009, at the
Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home with pastor Bob Parry officiating.
Interment was in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.
Reid was born Sept. 27, 1921, in Peeltown to Myrtle Tucker and William
Henry Brewer and died Dec. 14, 2009.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Reid, sons Ronald Joe and
Michael Reid, three brothers, three sisters and her parents.
She worked for Texas Instruments from 1956 to 1989 as a technician.
She had a true passion for learning and working on new microchips with
Jack Kilby for many years.
She was in the class of 1941 at Stubbs High School.
She enjoyed dancing with her friends in the 49er’s group. She was a
member of the Grays Prairie Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter Becky Horner, Kemp; sisters Elsie Mae
Long, Oklahoma City, Okla.; and Dorothy Henson, Corona, Calif.;
numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends and family.
LaFern Peel Mince
LaFern Peel Mince of Gun Barrel City will spend her first Christmas in
heaven but will always live in the hearts of her family and many
friends.
Born Nov. 27, 1930, in Waco and entering heaven Dec. 12, 2009, she will
be greatly missed by husband of 61 years Jimmie Mince Jr.; son Michael
Mince and daughter LeAnne Brazeal and their families; including two
grandsons, a granddaughter and great-granddaughter; sisters Janell Cook
and Neely Manley; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins; loving in-laws
and a host of dear friends.
Welcoming her to heaven were parents Robert Grady Peel and Willie Ballow,
stepfather Russell Ballow, sister Jackie Petty, and brother Thurman
Peel.
The family received friends Friday Dec. 18, 2009, and a service
celebrating all the joy she brought others was Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009
at the Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.
Freida
Denby
Services for Freida Mohrea Denby, 75, Combine, were held Dec. 19, 2009,
at the Tomlinson Funeral Home in Seven Points with Josh McDonald
officiating. Interment followed in Oakland Cemetery in Canton.
Denby was born Nov. 16, 1934, in Dallas to Johnie Foster and Mathew
Smith and died Dec. 15, 2009, in Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Sammie Aliese Cox,
Carrie and Mathine Nickolson, great-grandson Jacob Mitchel Pitman,
nephew Troy Philip Nickolson and niece Jody Willson.
She was a seamstress and worked many years for a drapery company.
Survivors include her husband, Sammy Denby; daughters Mohrea Denby and
husband Steve Anderson and Tammy Denby and husband Delward Jr. Stracner;
grandchildren Donna Pitman Smith, David L. Pitman, Johnny Ray Pitman,
Nathan Del Stracner and Delward Garlon Stracner III; great-grandchildren
Amanda Pitman, Andrew Smith, Jonathan Pitman, Garrett Pitman, Shane
Stracner, Leila Brooke Stracner and Carley Pitman; niece Grace Ann
Black; and nephew William Harold Stanly.
Pallbearers were David Pitman, Johnny Pitman, Nathan Stracner, Garlon
Stracner III, Jonathan Pitman, Andrew Smith, Delward Stracner Jr., Steve
Anderson, Mickey Smith and Garrett Pitman.
Rosa Lee Smith
Services for Rosa Lee Smith, Eustace, were held Dec. 18, 2009, at the
Living for the Brand Church with pastor Perry Smith officiating. Burial
was at Oaklawn Cemetery in Athens under the direction of Moorhead-Epps
Funeral Home of Gun Barrel City.
Smith was born Sept. 7, 1921, in Lone Oak to the home of Hattie Pearl
Hart and Albert Caldwell and died Dec. 14, 2009, in Athens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Buddy Caldwell and
sisters Hallie Mae Boykin and Inez Akins.
She married her husband Aubrey Lavern Smith Sept. 19, 1942.
Survivors include her husband; daughter Carroline Sue Smith Bowman; son
Ronnie Smith and fiancée Valerie Peggy Haynie; grandchildren Suzanne
Carl, Hilary Rhoades, Brooks Bowman, Ryon Bowman, April Smith and
William Smith; nine great-grandchildren; and brother Dewayne Caldwell.
