Gun Barrel City UPS joins with Marines for Toys for Tots
Special to the Monitor
GUN BARREL CITY–With the strong financial support of the UPS Store customers, Friday, store owner Ted Ingersoll presented seven large boxes filled with toys to The Family Resource Center.
UPS Store owners all over the nation have joined with the U. S. Marines’ national “Toys for Tots” program for the past two years.
The Gun Barrel City store has been a leader in donation collections and in providing local support.
“Our customers deserve all the credit for this,” Ingersoll said.
“There were a number of individual contributions of $100 and nearly everyone who came to the store offered their support,” he added.
The Resource Center acts as a regional clearing house to identify local families needing assistance.
“This community has given us terrific encouragement since we opened three years ago, and this is just one way we can say ‘thanks’ to our community,” Ingersoll said.

Southside honors Carla Kennedy
Special to The Monitor
MABANK–Southside Elementary School announces its December Employee of the Month as Carla Kennedy.
Kennedy is the fifth grade science teacher. She has taught for five years, all at Southside Elementary.
When she first began teaching, she taught Pre-k and then was moved to fourth grade. She taught fourth grade science and social studies for two years and then she was moved to fifth grade science.
Kennedy loves teaching science because it is a very hands-on subject. She gives her students many opportunities to do activities instead of just reading about science in a book.
A lot of her activities are done in cooperative groups allowing her students the experience of working together as a team.
She has been married for 18½ years to Lee Kennedy.
They have two sons, Zachary and Cody. Zachary is a senior this year and will be leaving for the Army in June. Cody is a sophomore and loves to ride horses.
