Purtis Creek Produces Latest ShareLunker
Special to The Monitor
ATHENS-Small lakes continue to produce big bass.
Tuesday, Johnny Worley of Oakwood was fishing in Purtis Creek State Park Lake when he hooked what is now Budweiser ShareLunker No. 407, a 13.31-pound largemouth.
Worley was fishing with a waterdog in four feet of water. The fish was 26.25 inches long and 21.75 inches in girth.
Purtis Creek is a catch-and-release only lake in the state park by the same name. It produced Budweiser ShareLunkers in 1994 and 1996.
"He (Worley) was still excited when he called to check on the fish this morning," David Campbell said Wednesday. "He was really happy he caught that fish."
Anyone legally catching a 13-pound or heavier largemouth bass in Texas waters may enter the fish in the Budweiser ShareLunker program.
To report a fish, call (903) 681-0550 or page David Campbell at (888) 784-0600. Anglers agree to donate or lend the fish to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
The Budweiser ShareLunker program is made possible through support from Anheuser-Busch, Inc.
Since 1991, Anheuser-Busch, in partnership with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, has contributed millions of dollars in funding to support conservation causes and fishing, hunting and outdoor recreation programs across the state.
