’Jackets sting Kaufman, 11-4

KEMP–Kemp’s Yellowjackets took a big step toward securing a playoff berth Tuesday as they knocked off the visiting Kaufman Lions 11-4.
The ’Jackets aren’t scheduled to play again until 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 21, when they face a key District 12-3A contest on the road at Crandall.
Another key game will follow at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, when the ’Jackets host Wills Point in the regular season finale.
Catcher Brett Kennedy got the win for the ’Jackets Tuesday, giving up two runs, five hits and three walks, while notching one strikeout.
Mikie Scruggs pitched the last four innings, giving up two runs, five hits and two walks while notching six strikeouts, and also went 1-for-4 at the plate.
Nick Sallings led the ’Jackets at the plate, going 3-for-4 and scoring three times.
Matt Carr went 2-for-4, including a double and a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth that pretty much iced the game.
J.R. Frizzell also went 2-for-4 with a double and scored three times, while Josh Carr also went 2-for-4.
Leif Skierski went 1-for-3, Michael Haney also went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Oliver LaCour went 1-for-3 and scored once.
 

Gautreaux set for Frisco tournament

FRISCO–Mabank High School graduate Adrienne Gautreaux will be playing in the Duramed Futures Golf Classic professional women’s golf tournament in Frisco Friday through Sunday, April 21-23.
The “Power of a Dream Classic” will be held at the Trails of Frisco Golf Club, and is one of three Duramed pro women’s golfing events to be held in Texas this year.
Gautreaux is one of 144 professional women players to sign up for the event and one of six from Texas. There are also 52 international players from 16 foreign countries signed up to compete, along with five amateurs.
The Duramed Futures Tour, now in its 26th season, is the “Official Development Tour of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association),” and the Frisco field will include several former LPGA Tour members.
The Duramed Futures Tour will include 19 tournaments in 14 states, with a record season purse of $1.42 million, an average of $75,000 per tournament.
