First Courtney Howard Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament set
Monitor Staff Reports
KEMP–The inaugural Courtney Howard Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament is set for Monday, April 17, at the Cedar Creek Country Club.
Proceeds from the tournament and accompanying auction will go toward providing scholarships for deserving Mabank High School and Eustace High School senior athletes, and will also benefit the Children’s Medical Center Hospital in Dallas.
Howard, a 2004 Mabank High School graduate, was honored for the courage and strength she showed – undergoing chemotherapy at Children’s Hospital in the morning and returning home to start for the MHS Lady Panthers basketball team that night.
Howard lost her long battle against cancer in November, 2005. It is hoped this tournament in her name will become an annual event.
The Courtney Howard Foundation is seeking sponsors and auction donations/buyers, as well as participating teams.
As planned, the golf tournament will be a four-man scramble with a noon shotgun start, opening with lunch at 11 a.m.
Entry fee is $75 per person, and is limited to the first 120 entries. Deadline for entering is 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 12.
Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place teams, as well as closest to the pin and longest drive.
Teague Chevrolet in Mabank has provided a 2006 Chevrolet HHR as a hole-in-one prize, and Capital Lumber has also provided a $10,000 cash prize for a hole-in-one.
Entry forms are available at Groom & Sons’ Hardware and Lumber, or call (903) 887-1689 during regular business hours.
