Area Fishing Reports
ATHENS – Water clear, 79-83 degrees; 1.97 feet low. Black bass are good
on topwaters early, later switching to Carolina rigged french fries out
from main lake points in 10-15 feet. Crappie are good on jigs and
minnows in 10-15 feet around brush piles. Catfish are excellent on
punchbait and worms around baited holes.
CEDAR CREEK – Water clear; 79-82 degrees; 2.69 feet low. Black bass are
good on topwaters over shallow grass early, later switching to Carolina
rigs on points with submerged grass. White bass are good on Humdingers
and slabs. Hybrid striper are fair to good on live shad and Sassy Shad.
Crappie are fair on tube jigs around the shady side of bridge columns.
Catfish are excellent on liver and fresh shad.
PALESTINE – Water fairly clear; 78-84 degrees; 2.19 feet low. Black bass
are fair to good on junebug Texas rigged ribbon tail worms, spinnerbaits
and Chatterbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs around brush and
stickups. Catfish are fair on nightcrawlers and prepared baits. White
bass are good on small chrome Rat-L-Traps and topwaters. Hybrid striper
are fair on live shad and Sassy Shad.
RICHLAND CHAMBERS – Water fairly clear; 78-82 degrees; 6.05 feet low.
Black bass are fair to good on drop shot rigged finesse worms,
spinnerbaits and Carolina rigs. White bass and hybrid striper are fair
to good on live shad, chartreuse slabs and Humdingers. Crappie are good
on minnows and jigs around brush. Catfish are good on chartreuse (use
Worm-Glo) nightcrawlers and juglines with live shad.
TAWAKONI – Water stained; 79-84 degrees; 6.49 feet low. Black bass are
fair on topwaters early, midday switching to spinnerbaits, white 3-inch
Cannibals and Chatterbaits. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. White
bass are good on topwaters and slabs. Striped bass and hybrid striper
are fair on chrome Rat-L-Traps and Sassy Shad. Catfish are good on punch
bait and nightcrawlers.
FORK – Water clear; 79-85 degrees; 2.83 feet low. Black bass fair on
black Horny Toads along lily pads early in the morning, during the day
switching to sour grape frys, junebug baby Brush Hogs on a Carolina rig
and weightless watermelon seed super flukes along main lake grass lines
12-22 feet. Drop-shot rigs with 4-inch watermelon seed craws are also
working in deeper water using. Crappie are good on small jigs in 20 feet
under main lake bridges and around brush piles. Catfish are good in 15
feet on prepared baits.
NAVARRO MILLS – Water clear; 5.18 feet low. Black bass are slow. White
bass are slow. Crappie are good on minnows and chartreuse jigs in 7-10
feet. Bream are excellent on nightcrawlers. Channel and blue catfish are
fair on chartreuse (use Worm-Glo) nightcrawlers. Yellow catfish are
slow.
GRAPEVINE – Water fairly clear; 79-86 degrees; 6.26 feet low. Black bass
are fair to good on Texas rigged blue fleck Power Worms, medium diving
Bandit crankbaits, and finesse baits. Crappie are good on minnows and
jigs over brush piles. White bass are good on slabs and Humdingers.
Catfish are fair to good on cut bait and chartreuse (use Worm-Glo)
nightcrawlers.
