MVFD sets golf tournament for new fire station

MABANK–The Mabank Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring “The Blister Open” golf tournament Monday, Oct. 9, at the Cedar Creek Country Club.
Proceeds from the four-man-scramble tournament will go toward the construction fund for the planned MVFD substation, to be located on Kaufman County Road 4022, near the CCCC entrance.
Entry fee is $60 per player, which includes a noon lunch. Play will begin with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
Prizes will be awarded for closest to the pin and longest drive, and to the top finishers (gross and net) for two flights.
A special hole-in-one prize will be provided by Teague Chevrolet, and other prizes will be handed out.
Entry fee checks should be made out to Mabank Volunteer Fire Department Building Fund, and should be addressed to Mabank Volunteer Fire Department, attention Carol Keck, 123 E. Market Street, Mabank, TX 75146.

Horton qualifies for PGA club pro championship

KEMP–Cedar Creek Country Club professional Mike Horton recently qualified for this year’s PGA Club Professional Championship.
Horton finished in the top five at the FINA Northern Texas PGA Senior’s Championship, held at Ridglea Country Club’s south course in Fort Worth July 19-20.
Horton shot rounds of 73 and 70 to finish at 143 – 1 under par – which qualified him to compete in the Callaway Golf PGA Senior Club Professional Championship.
The championship will be held at the PGA Village Golf Club Reserve’s North Course in Port Saint Lucie, Fla. The course was designed by world-renowned golf course architect Tom Fazio.
“This is a great honor and accomplishment for Mike, and Cedar Creek Country Club is very proud,” CCCC general manager Larry Harper said. “Congratulations, Mike!”
