Humane Society sends animals all over the
U.S.

TOOL–Staff at the Cedar Creek Lake Humane Society are making
a Herculean effort to find homes for the large number of
dogs it takes in.
“In March we entered into a transfer program with the SPCA
(Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). On a
monthly basis, we transfer specifically chosen animals to
the SPCA in Dallas,” shelter director Krista McAnally said.

Despite efforts to find new homes, 180 abandoned pets like
these are euthanized every month.
“We take about 20 pictures and send them along with their
necessary information to the SPCA intake director. After she
looks at them she tells us which animals she will take,”
McAnally explained.
Wednesday, seven dogs were loaded into a van for the trip
into Dallas.
Assistant manager Cindy Killgore transported the animals,
planning to arrive at the Dallas SPCA location around noon.
The local Humane Society has a limited number of adoption
possibilities.
“This program (with the SPCA) affords dogs another
opportunity at adoption by providing a larger interested
population,” McAnally added.
The shelter also places pets for adoption on
petfnders.com as well as
sending special animals to organizations around the country.
